My little girl is now 4 days old, and we are breastfeeding and expressing as she doesn’t always latch, however I really don’t want to get mastitis, has anyone got any tips or hints to prevent this happening please? I’m giving breast then a bottle and when I bottle expressing from both breast for 1 cycle, new to all of this as my first born latched and was a hungry baby!

Cooled cabbage leaves. Rinse under cool water, take the big stem/vein out and apply to breasts for 20 minutes x

In the early days your boobs will be trying it regulate to your babies needs. Ideally keep feeding from the breast and support her developing her latch so she can cue your body as to what she needs rather than adding confusion with expressing too. That should help prevent an oversupply and blockage to lead to potential mastitis. If you’re unsure- speak to the health visitors as they usually have some sort of breastfeeding support they you could go to!
