Navigating single parent?

I split up with baby’s father in January. He moved back to his parents house (who are not allowed contact with our daughter due to being unsafe) myself and our daughter live with my parents. I allowed him to still come to our house to see our daughter until he found somewhere to live but he’s put no effort into finding somewhere. He comes down 4 nights through the week but only stays for an hour during which is dinner time for my little girl so I have cooked the food and feeding her while he sits back and doesn’t actually need to do anything during that hour. At first I found myself booking local soft plays etc for him to take her on a Saturday he doesn’t drive and lives around 20 minutes from us I would need to drop our daughter to the soft play centre and wait in the car for an hour because it would be pointless me driving the 20 minutes back home. While at the centre he wouldn’t even feed her meaning she would come out really upset. It went from the soft play to just allowing him down my house on a Saturday as it worked out easier for me however I don’t think I should have to put up with him coming into my personal space anymore. Last Friday night he told me around 9pm that he wouldn’t be coming down on the Saturday as he was going out with his friends. I don’t have a problem with him going out but the event he was going to was a big event booked months prior so he could have told me sooner as I would have planned something for myself and daughter to do. The Saturday before my parents offered to take my daughter for a couple of hours but I said no as her dad said he was coming down. He then never showed up at the expected time and text me later saying he couldn’t find a lift. There are plenty of buses or even a taxi if he truly wanted to see her that much. He then came to my house at 6pm knowing my daughter goes up to bed at half past and expected to come into my bedroom and sit on my bed to try and do the night time routine. I dont know what to do anymore I really don’t agree with him coming to my house into my personal space there’s no way I could possibly move on like this but there’s also no way he could take our daughter to his parents house where he is currently living. What would you do? I know it’s a pretty long post but I feel like I’ve done everything I possibly could do benefit him. So many times I’ve dropped plans with friends so he can come to the house and see his daughter then he comes late or lets us down. I would never stop him seeing our daughter but everything’s on his terms

Its hard because you have to have your daughters best interests at heart but at the same time have your own personal boundaries.

With coming to the house you can make whatever boundary you like. If he's late and it's inconvenient then he misses out. If you meet him out if he's late again he misses out on his time with his daughter.

If hes living with his parent and that doesn't allow for his daughter to be there then that's all on him.

He's letting his daughter down. The only thing you can do is get legal support and the court set up visitation. Not sure what country you're in but in the UK, this is pretty easy to arrange

Could you book something on Saturdays or even just make it time to go to your parents? Then if he does show up fine, if he doesn't it doesn't matter.

I definitely have my daughter’s best interests at heart but there’s only so long I can keep making sacrifices and changing my plans to benefit him. Myself and my little girl have missed out on days out with our friends to stay home and wait for him for him then to not show up or show up half hour before she goes to bed at which point she’s clingy to me and doesn’t want to know him anyway. I want him in her life but at the moment it’s me keeping that relationship between them going. I don’t mind him coming to our house to see our daughter but he’s not putting any effort into finding a place of his own. When he comes to my house he just sits back and watches he doesn’t bother changing nappies/feeding her/cleaning her up after food etc x

Um, this might sound insensitive but this is what a judge/mediator will state. Unless the state or CPS has claimed his parents house as unsafe then it isn’t. You might think it is unsafe for whatever reason but if you haven’t been there is months or he hasn’t told you about anything then you can’t prove it is still unsafe according to laws or regulations. In 21 states 50/50 is the baseline and can start as soon as 6 weeks of age or even sooner if courts are not backed up. Him missing a visitation here or there isn’t the end of the world. He had prior plans that he let you know 6 to 7 days beforehand, a mediator is going to see that as acceptable doesn’t matter when the tickets where bought. If they were purchased while y’all were still together a judge/mediator could have said you already knew about them but now picking/choosing since the relationship ended which won’t look good for you.

Some judges and mediators understand last minute changes happen and if other parent didn’t have the money to take a taxi or ride the bus that can be understandable. Life is expensive.

I am sorry you’re going through this. You sound like a really good mum and want the best for your daughter, by allowing her dad to come to your family home to see her (putting your own feelings about him aside) and arranging all these days out for them so she doesn’t go to his parents which is not safe. It seems like you are doing everything. You are doing all the parenting, making sure your daughter is safe and happy and well looked after and making the effort for her to have a relationship with her dad. He seems to be the one making absolutely no effort. If he wanted to see her he would put her first before anything and make the effort to be the best parent especially when he doesn’t see her all the time!! I think sit down with him and talk it all through let him know how you are feeling and how he keeps disappointing you and little one and that he needs to step up in his role or co-parenting

I had no idea about the event until 9pm the night before I get things happen and things come up but this was booked months in advance which I later found out. We already made agreements when we first split that we would split it 50/50 and if for example it was supposed to be his weekend of having her but he had an event to attend then I would happily have her that weekend for him to go aslong as I know in advance. Quite honestly it would make life much easier for me if I could cut him off completely but I am doing everything I possibly can for him to have a relationship with our daughter. It is not my job to drop plans with friends that I booked for myself and daughter for him to see his daughter just because he didn’t see her the day before due to him prioritising seeing’s his friends. He works and earns a good income. Any decent parent would catch a bus/taxi to see their child if they really wanted infact he knows I would of given money for him to catch the bus if he

Avatar

if he really needed however on the income he earns he has no bills to pay. If he doesn’t have the money to pay for a bus which is pretty cheap here in the UK then that means he spent all his money over the weekend on alcohol with his friends so again shows he is not prioritising his daughter.

also I was not the one to originally cut the contact with his parents. He was the one who stopped them from being around our daughter for numerous reasons including physical threats towards us. He went back to their home as it was the only place he had. There is no judge on this planet who would make me send my daughter around his parents. It is my job to keep her safe and I would fight that all the way.

You would be surprised what a judge will order. Dont ever say never because I have literally seen judges NATIONWIDE order equal custody to even parents that physically abused their kids

I've finally done it

I have finally done it. I have finally become the trope, the stereotype.

I have become bitter, resentful, and very overwhelmed and overloaded. I am very unhappy and hit burnout. And I snapped at my husband last night. I work full-time, and work has been very busy so im working late a lot. Im also in grad school. I also have a toddler that has become VERY clingy with me. My husband works shorter days but commutes, so he usually gets home after me by an hour or more. When he gets home, he usually heads to the restroom for at least 30 mins when he gets home. And now my toddler doesnt want anything to do with him. So im doing all the toddler duties until bed. I dont get 5 mins to myself. Not for almost 2 years. I finally hit my wall. I have also, somehow, become my MILs medical ride service and she somehow has an appt every week, it seems?! Shes not sick!! My husband was complaining that he needs to change routine to fit in a workout sometimes, and I lost it. I have been BEGGING for 5 mins to myself for months. I have been telling him how im not good, im going to burn out for months. And between his attitude and him complaining (which really got me b/c he blames me for not being able to work out?! Saying I need help when he gets home so he just cant workout now) I just lost it completely. I told him how unfair my life has become and I have the entire mental and emotional load and it is just not fair. He got mad at me and said "hes trying" when hes literally not trying at all. What do I do?? No one is taking the load from me! And im done and dont know what to do now.
I do not like this version of me.

AITA?

This isn't a major issue, just wondering if I'm being a bit of an asshole.

• I do shift work, 5 out of 7 days, full-time.
• My partner works from home (mostly, sometimes he goes into the office) M-F, full-time.

Anyway, whenever I have a day off during the week he gets in his feelings when I make myself food (breakfast and lunch) but not him. His reason is he's working, I'm not - Which is fair but I've asked him how many times on a weekend has he gotten up, on his day off and made me breakfast and a lunch to take with me to work? You guessed it, 0.

So basically, just because I'm at home I don't think the responsibility to feed him should automatically fall on me when he manages to feed himself just fine while I'm at work.

Big vent!

Hi mums.
I'm a first time mum in my 40s to twin boys. They are almost 5 months old and the biggest miracle in my life!
I am struggling!!!
I'm pretty sure I have ppa as my pregnancy was a very high risk and all I remember was crying from anxiety of all the ifs!Thankfully even born at 35 weeks and skinny, didn't need iu time.
My husband is not helping much because he's always too busy with work.He will "look" after them usually between 8pm-12am so I can have a chance to sleep.
He expects me to just sleep when I touch the pillow, even though I hear tje babies crying and him don't really bother because most of the times he'll be on his laptop working.
When I tell him I can't relax to fall asleep because I feel you r neglecting the babies,he says I'm the problem becauae I'm always there with them and don't give them alone time!!
I am angry!!I am furious!!
I can't keep.up.with housework becauae someone alwaya neess me and most of the times they nap I either cook and clean tje kitchen,do laundry or try and take a quick nap.
He doesn't help.around the house,becauae..guess what?always super busy.
I asked him nicely we could clean the house together every Saturday morning so it's easier and quicker for both of us and he said no,because he has a lot of work but probably wants to sleep until 12 or 2.
2 days ago a button of his coat ripped and I told him I'll sew it these days.
Earlier this morning while running late for his work,as always,he weara the coat and told him didn't get the chance to fix the button and sarcastically said..of.course u didn't!!!
I spent all night awake because one of the babies had congested nose and we've been trying to reduce one fees at night.
I wanted to punch him!!He left and I started crying...I cry so much, even at 5 months pp...
I can't go on like this anymoreeeee...
The crying in my ears is constant..my head is always numb..I've gained so much weight and can't find the strength to get back on track..
Even if I try to.find a therapist to just talk,is it gonna help?I really don't know😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Avoidant husband

I love my husband and he is a good man. We have some issues in our relationship however, as he has an avoidant attachment style (finds romance/intimacy/being emotional difficult). This comes from him having to be independent from a young age and having quite an abusive mother.
The issues in our relationship are mainly around a lack of sex and intimacy. I think the problem is that to feel turned on, I need to feel connected and wanted. My husband (being avoidant) will usually make jokes about being horny whereas I would want to have someone make me feel beautiful/sexy to get in the mood.
It sounds terrible but I've sometimes had dreams about exes that would make me feel this way, and the romance we had (eye contact, intensity, deep words). It makes me feel really guilty but I feel like i'm starved of that. My husband would like a lot more sex but I can't always force myself if I'm not feeling it.
We've spoken a bit about therapy but I know its often really expensive so we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Do you have any suggestions please? I know that neither of us are wrong in what we want, just different but I'm scared about whether we can fix it or if we're doomed?

Is this clever or cruel?

My husband and i were talking and with social media and the internet in general being a terrifying dumpster fire, we are trying to figure out the best way to keep our son safe while still teaching him how to safely be online and moderation.

We landed on the idea of giving him the 90's kid treatment. A computer in the living room for us to keep an eye on what hes doing online, and once we feel hes mature enough to hang with friends without adult supervision he gets a flip phone. When we feel he is responsible enough and he earns and saves up the money for the physical phone, case, and screen cover, then we will be happy to take him to get a smart phone.

I thought this was air tight, but now my brother says its cruel to give a kid a flip phone, and besides he can just use his friends phones at school.

My husband and i remember a time before the internet, and we remember having complete access to something no one understood yet. We saw unspeakable things and are always battling with the urge to put the phone and social media down. I dont want that for my son, especially with his brain so vulnerable still.
