Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advice. I’m returning to work shortly after some time off with “morning” sickness. I’m still really struggling tbh but feel I need to do a few hours. I have an occupational health appointment coming up and I’ve spoken with both my doctor and midwife who agree that shorter days are going to be best to get me through at the moment (I do long days) so I intend to discuss this in the referral.
My concern is, if I reduce my hours as a result, will my maternity pay then be reduced accordingly? I’m already 0.7 so it will be a big financial hit during maternity leave. The period of time will fall directly within the qualifying weeks for maternity pay calculations too.
Thanks all.

Your maternity pay will be based on the payslips you get covering qualifying weeks (for me this was based on the work in the actual month before because of the lag with payday), so if you are paid less in this time then yes your mat pay calculation will be affected. However if adjustments are made for OH reasons just check whether your pay will automatically reduce.
Thank you!

You can get sick notes from doctors that cover hours, and not days. Ask your doctor xx

Depends when your qualifying weeks were so if you are reducing before or during them then yes it will affect you. You could ask to use your annual leave and have a phased return

Not if you do it as a gradual phased return over a few weeks, with the aim of getting back to your usual long days once you're over the worst.. is that feasible for you?
yes I think so! Thank you
