Whale Tailing

Anyones baby started to ‘Whale Tail’ (lifting their legs and throwing them down) during the night? Apparently its a form of self soothing. My LB can do this for ages and I never know if i should just let him continue if he isnt crying or if i should try and help him (sometimes it can go on for 10 mins+)

Yes.. and we co- sleep. So as you can imagine I am not getting much sleep right now 🤣🤣 mine is still fast asleep when doing it so I leave him to it. Riding the sleep regression wave. I imagine it's part of that?

Yeah.... same here... co sleeper... mine farts along with it 🤣

Yes 😂

Yep usually end up with her legs in my bed 🙈 she does it a lot during the day too but I read it was the start of rolling although she’s been doing it weeks and still doesn’t roll just lays on her side 😕

Yes, leave them to it

@Yvette omg that’s so funny 🤣🤣

I didn't know there was a name for this and it is definitely not soothing 😂I have to put a hand gentle on hips area and she will stop and settle into sleep again with either hand chewing or dummy x

yes, i usually leave my girl to do it unless she’s crying x

Yes! Shakes his whole next to me 😂 it’s so crazy. Me and my partner were “getting busy” last night and all I could hear was babies legs slamming up and down it was so distracting and making me laugh 😂

@Abby Hale this is killing me 🤣🤣

It’s a developmental thing and self soothing. It’s important to not stop them from doing things like this as it is aiding their progression and learning. Mine does it when she’s in her cot a few times in the middle of the night when she’s waking up and getting herself back to sleep. It’s her learning to do it herself, so to stop a baby doing it could delay them learning self soothing.

Just wondering if and when your baby stopped this? Mines started recently and it’s so loud 😂
