Hi all, I’m currently EBF (7-8 feeds per day) but due to a number of never ending battles, I think I’m at the point where I want to start weaning (bub takes bottles fine, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem from her side). Now I know that to wean you have to gradually drop a feed per day and so on to prevent getting mastitis. I’m just concerned that when I start the weaning process, it’ll make my supply as a whole drop to the point that she’ll be hungry and fussy after all the other feeds and I’ll have to give top up bottles? I don’t really want to be doubling up with breastfeeding and formula bottles in this process. Or will I still have enough milk for the other feeds that I’m not giving bottles for? I’m also currently on motilium, should I wean the motilium first, before I wean the breastfeeding? Can anyone help or provide any advice as to the best way to do this?

How old is your baby
almost 7 months

Oh ok wow still very young.
I have no advice I still bf and mine is 15 months.
So can't offer advice for that young sorry
lol well good for you for still going at it!

what advice would you have given anyway if you’re still breastfeeding? Seems a little unnecessary to comment in the first place if you weren’t going to offer advice anyway? 7 months is a long time.
Anonymous, I hope someone can provide you the answers you’re looking for. All the best with your journey x

Maybe you could ask the child health nurses they do drop in clinics or possibly breastfeeding Australia they might have some information on the website?

Highly recommend talking to Australian Breastfeesding association, or even seeing if there's some info or tips on their website x
If you'd like any tips to help with any of the issues you're having I'd make a post about that too 😊

it's okay for people to share their opinions and it is very young to stop breastfeeding.
Some mums don't know this perspective and some don't even know the benefits of breastfeeding.
It's okay for people to comment these things, it's also okay to get triggered. We understand 💗
completely understandable, I agree there are so many benefits. However, the emphasis on “due to a number of never ending battles” highlights briefly, but nonetheless importantly, the need for advice on how to stop. There is so much conflicting advice received as a FTM and it’s nice to have this platform to hear people share their experiences and advice in similar circumstances, not comment something that has no informative or helpful input to the situation.

am I missing something?
Anonymous hasn’t asked for anyone’s opinion on whether they believe 7 months of breastfeeding is too long or too short. She’s asking for advice on how to wean, which obviously Chanel doesn’t have personal experience with.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is insensitive to comment on a post talking about how long you’ve breastfed for, and not offer any sort of advice or even empathy to a person, on a post that doesn’t relate in any way to her situation.
It’s not the case of being triggered in the slightest. It’s the case of supporting women who are asking for help, not seizing the opportunity to show off how long I’ve breastfed for 🤷🏻♀️

you think she is showing off, so I think you may be triggered girl. I saw nothing wrong with her comment and this post is open to everyone, so every opinion is allowed. 💗

thanks for your opinion girly ☺️

I day weaned at 13 months and night weaned at about 22 months. I took the same approach as you and dropped a feed but more like one every week (and shortened the time feeding for night feeds instead of dropping whole feeds). Took me about two months to stop and I didn't have a massive drop. But by saying this, my girl was in solids for 6 months already so she might just increased solid intake to make up for any milk loss. In theory, if you wean gradually, you should still make enough milk to not have to top up with formula. Good luck. 7 months is a great effort. Well done mama!
