My daughter has 3c hair and I use the Shea moisture products. I use the shampoo conditioner detangler leave in conditioner and a oil and her hair is normally great and doesn't tangle badly (I also wash her hair ever three days and refresh her hair every night and braid it) and she wears her afro out. But people are saying to stop buying it? I'm so confused and I work really hard cause I don't want her to think I don't care about her when she gets older. I ask my mil but she uses cantu for her mixed baby. (My husband is black fully she remarried.) Idk I'm stressed. Is it bad tho??

Learn more about our guidelines.I think you should stick to what works because people say a lot of things. As long as there aren’t any harmful ingredients and it works forget what people think. Try not to over think it. Even people have a lot to say about Cantu but I use it and it’s fine
So the problem is (and bear with me on this cos its quite long) shea moisture is no longer black owned. White people have now jumped on this whole curly hair thing now. In order to get their hair to be anything but straight they go to extreme lengths with washing "techniques" and use a tonne of product then have to plop, rake, praying hands, do a handstand, sing a song from mary poppins, diffuse, microplop, gel, scrunch out the crunch to achieve a slight wave. These women are like "oooooh curly hair products, lets try them" then realising they dont have the hair type for the product so complain, "oh its too heavy, its too greasy" etc The product companies then change the formula to work better for white hair as thats whose buying up all the curly hair products. It then stops working for black and mixed black hair cos its now catering to white people. Now having said all that, if it works then keep using it but have a back up product just in case
I use shea moisture on my son’s hair. So far no issues. I don’t really know what hair type he has though to be honest. If something works well for your baby and you’re comfortable using it do what’s best for you and your baby.
shea moisture is good but if you're looking for other brands try aunt jackie's, they have a range for children's hair me and my two siblings (with hair types 3a-3c) use it and it is really good!! curl-la-la is also really good but costs a little more. avoid cantu though it does end up doing more damage than good 🩷
I use Shea Moisture.
Cantu is awful.
Thanks for all the tips! I just don't want to damage her hair because of ignorance. I feel better now lol
I use shea moisture the problem people have is it’s no longer black owned and some of the products have become watered down but cantu is awful and absolutely kills hair it has tons of alcohol and bad ingredients
