Baby just won't burp !!!!

Long post alert !!!
I am getting so stressed out and frustrated. My 3 month old baby just won't ever ever burp. You can hear that gravelly sound like he's got soooo much wind but no matter how much you try to burp him, he just won't burp. And then he'll throw up or do a huge poo. He sometimes burps at other times other than at feeds, but burping him is near impossible.

To make matters even worse, he's not gaining weight properly. He's gained a few ounces in the last month😓 and has dropped a centile line. He was on the 25th before, but is now on the 9th centile and he's just so little, at 5.4kg.

I'm already feeding him 5-6 ounces of breast milk in a bottle every 4 ish hours. The health visitor said I'm not giving him enough, but the GP said that's more than normal... they think it's because he's got reflux and won't burp, so he may not be taking in enough.

But I'm literally just so overwhelmed and I've just fed him and he literally didn't burp once, not even a little one, and I was burping him for at least 5 minutes. I'm beyond stressed out by this and it's really affecting my mental health that I can't work out how to burp him properly and that he's not gaining weight. I'm trying so so hard to feed him but it's just not working properly.

Sorry for how long this is but I just really need some advice or support. I am writing this and baby is sat in his bouncer just with that gravelly sound and I will try and burp him again. But my arms are about to fall off as I have muscle issues and I can't hold him for prolonged periods of time. This is so hard. Anyone else experience anything like this? Thanks xxxx

Have you tried alternate burping positions? We had trouble with over the shoulder with my son for a while and the lap one worked best- sit him on your leg and bend his torso slightly forward, supporting his chin (not neck) with your hand, and pat his back with the other hand. Some babies just take longer to burp too- there's been times I've had to do it for 15 minutes unfortunately. Also, we started giving our son simethicone gas drops after every feed and they worked wonders. They do not replace burping but it gives a little more peace of mind if you can't get one out every once and a while.

we've literally tried every single position and nothing helps. We've been prescribed gaviscon for reflux and wind which hasn't done anything. Infacol was also prescribed which doesn't work. I physically cannot burp him for more than about 5 mins at a time as I don't have the muscle strength and my hands will start to spasm if I don't stop 😓 feel like I'm running out of options and I just cry all the time

My boy is AWFUL for burping too!! I have to give him to MIL ! Slight pressure on the tummy when over the shoulder does help us. Or letting him lay down for a bit then picking him up and walking round with him over my shoulder having a bounce.
He sometimes won’t burp after a bottle then an hour later having a cuddle they come outta no where!

My LG was the same before I started dairy free. Turns out that she’s got an allergy to milk. She wasn’t gaining weight and even now at 3 months old she’s 4.5kg and just below the 2nd centile. One thing that did work most of the time was sitting her on my lap and patting her stomach in beat to Michael Jackson smooth criminal😂

Try holding baby under the armpits, holding their body, let their legs dangle and swing them gently like a pendulum. Left and right and then back and forth. 5/6 swings in each direction and then sit them up straight.
My boy might take 20 mins to burp, we just kept him sat upright and waited, slightly tilted to his left.

Also, that’s plenty of milk for a breastfed baby. You could try seeing a lactation consultant privately for some help on feeding and burping, they might have a tongue tie which would make them take on excess air.

i tried infacol and it made it worse apparently it’s more acid based so it tends to do that with reflux, i’ve since changed to using dentinox and it has been so much better. i also feed him more little and often and keep him upright or slightly raised if he’s tired for a little while after a feed and i burp him before, during and after a feed and he’s been doing so much better xx

Have you tried lay him on a sofa or bed flat on his front and pat his back? When mine struggles to burp this helps

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Crawling

Did anyone’s little one start crawling yet? I feel like we are falling behind but really have no idea. I’m trying to introduce more floor time but it’s been rough because of having hardwood floors and our 80 lb oblivious to life dog. I got us a carpet for the living room and trying to put the dog out more when the weather allows. She sits like a pro and will roll to get the things she needs😅 but no real signs of crawling yet.

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!
