We are planning to travel to Egypt for our first family holiday. My baby is currently 2 months, when would you recommend travelling abroad? We were thinking either when she turns 5 months or when she's 9/10 months. What do you think?

i wouldn’t know what the medical/safety advice is but my first instinct as a parent is to wait as long as possible! it would be lovely to make those memories with your little one but the experience would be heightened with a 10 month old because she will be more aware of more of the sensory experiences (e.g. can see further, gets more out of sensory play, can sit in a highchair so you guys can eat without lugging a huge pram into a restaurant). of course it’s whatever works for your family though! you might say you’d prefer your baby to be younger (and thus sleepier) when you travel so you can get some one on one time with your partner, and that’s okay too! in that case, hop on that plane asap😂 either way i hope you all enjoy your holiday xx

Having taken our little boy when he was nearly 1.5 years, I'd say 9 months would have been better. It was a lot for him as his routine was off. He wasn't a baby where they'd just watch the world go by, but he wasn't of an age where he was easy to entertain with the pool etc either. Don't get me wrong we did have a nice time but it was hard work at times. At 9 months you've also started weaning too and our little one loved trying all of the buffet xx

I'd go as soon as you can. Your baby won't remember anything and you won't have to lug weaning stuff with you or a ton of stuff to amuse your baby. You can settle them easier on a plane with bottle or boob. Have the time together.
The only thing I can think of is the heat but if that isn't an issue then do it ASAP. This is just my opinion. Do whatever you are comfortable with and others will have points I won't have thought of. Good luck xx

We have travelled at 4 months and 10 months by plane - 3hours and a half - then did a road trip to Hamburg Germany, which was around 16 hours, including ferry and stops at a year and a half
It is so much easier to travel with a small baby than a toddler . We did wait for all initial immunisations first . Helped my anxiety with travelling with a lot of people and also being in a different country .

My parents live in Egypt and it is very very hot at the moment. I would go in the cooler months after September or even October if your going south because it's still extremely warm and you want to be able to enjoy yourselves xx

The younger the better imo! So much easier when they’re small before they’re on the move and into everything x

We took our first flight to Australia when our girl was 8 weeks old. Perfect time to start, babies travel so well and it’s the easiest time to fly. They sleep well due to the white noise too and you can book the sky cots.
We’ve flown with her every month since, fly as much as you can before they are toddlers x

5months.
I took my baby away at 5months. Easiest trip! They are so little and sleepy that everything is relatively straightforward.
Worst trip was when she was 8.5months and she began moving a lot. Travelling became progressively more difficult as she got older and older.
Have fun!

The earlier the better! So much easier when they aren’t on the move, even easier when not weaning!!
would you say it's easier to fly in the morning with a 5 month old baby (like at 9am) or in the evening (at like 10pm), the flight is about 5 hours?

@incognito I would recommend the AM flight. Although it sucks to wake early and get out of the house with a baby. The good thing is that baby will sleep through most of the morning and the flight! Babies sleep so so much at 5 months and a plane is like a giant sound machine that will keep them asleep.
If you are breastfeeding, do this on the flight. That was always my trick. I would just breastfeed most of the flight. My daughter would fall asleep and I would keep her there, so she could re latch if she woke up.
Be aware that the baby will be in your lap, so you shouldn’t fall asleep. Assuming you are travelling with someone. Plan to swap holding baby halfway through the flight. So you can get some sleep.
The issue with PM flights is, baby will sleep, but you will be so tired from the day you have just had, it is so much harder having to be on a flight being unbearably tired. Also when you land wherever you are going, you still have so much to do before getting to ur destination.

I flew with my son when he was 3months, was super easy because he couldn't really move by himself and stayed still😅
