Weaning

Anyone else feeling so fed up and overwhelmed with weaning? I’m so sick of reading about “baby led weaning”, what’s the point in it? My baby doesn’t like anything with textures, so I’ve focused on purees and yoghurts which she loves and has always eaten so well by me feeding her with a spoon. This last week she just thinks it’s all a game. She grabs a loaded spoon off me with such force and lobs it EVERYWHERE. But doesn’t eat it? The mess stresses me out so much but seriously please tell me someone else feels the same way? I was so looking forward to this milestone and now I just dread every meal time. I feel like we’re not moving forwards at all in her eating actual meals, she just wants puree and fights me to play with it and that’s about it! Help please 😫

Ditto! My baby will only eat purées and yoghurts off a spoon. I started out at 6mths with BLW but NOTHING was going in her mouth.. I’m getting really concerned now as she has never put objects/toys in her mouth. She will suck her thumb that’s it. I’ve tried seeking advice from baby clinic but got directed to a website on BLW 🙄 I keep trying to offer finger food alongside the purées but she’s not interested. My teenage daughter is waiting for an ASD assessment and was diagnosed with anorexia 2 years ago so obviously I’m hyper vigilant about my baby’s weaning…

This is literally my life at the moment!

I personally couldn’t think of anything worse then sitting there and spoon feeding my baby😂😂

I miss when it was just bottles. Different hassle but so much easier 😅

We try baby led weaning at lunch and I do my best to keep to foods that don’t cause major mess (toast, omelettes, fruit, melty puffs etc). But then I spoon feed porridge for breakfast and a pouch for dinner just to make sure he’s actually getting fed. Best of both worlds for me. When he feeds himself he doesn’t eat much at all.
Do what is best for you and don’t worry about what others are doing. I agree that there is nothing wrong with spoon feeding at this age. Each baby will get there in their own time so take the pressure off yourself x

You don’t have to follow any method, you can take different ideas that work best for you and do your own thing.

I’ve always done a mix and depending on other factors (teeth, mood, illness etc) she’s shown different levels of interest at different times.

My baby was so horrendous at mealtimes for about 3 months and then just turned the corner and started getting really interested. She will still absolutely yeet food if she’s got something in her mouth already tho 🙄

@Shannon we are doing exactly the same as you. I feel he won't eat enough anyway.

Tbh, do you and follow your baby’s cue. Mine didn’t want textures to start off, then he got into it in the end. Atm, he’s stopped eating solids coz he’s having a moment lol 😂. Whatever he wants to do….ill follow his lead. As long as milk is still the number 1 nutrition base, you’re all good mama xx

Not much help but we're in the same boat too! We stopped letting our little girl feed herself from a spoon and now do a mixture of purees and finger food. We gave her the same breakfast (shreddies) for a few days in a row and now she loves them, so I think persevering really helps! Good luck 🤞

I mainly try give my little boy what we're eating now. Especially in the evening keeping it to one meal for everyone. So much easier as I have a three and a half year old too. For example bolognase and pasta. Will cut the pasta up and mash the sauce a bit. Give him sliced avocado or fruit on the side so he can handle it. He isn't made on purees and baby food to start with. Much preferred finger food.
It is messy, but he's getting the hang of feeding himself. My daughter is and still more fussy with things. Probably because we were puree things. I keep a small portion for the next day for him to have at lunch.
But do whatever works for you. 😊

The “catchy” has saved my sanity when it comes to BLW, it really works for us as I clean it before (and after obvs) she eats so anything that gets lobbed over the side of the high chair, I can pick up off the catchy and put it back on her tray to eat. Honestly the best money I’ve spent in ages!

It’s hit and miss with our baby girl. Some days I think she’s turned a corner and loves food and the next she refuses anything. Fed up of social media “what my baby eats in a day videos” and they practically serve a 3 course dinner, makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong and failing
Just got to keep telling myself she’ll get to grips with it in her own time

We do a mixture of BLW and purees. It’s definitely overwhelming, thinking of what to cook for him each week whilst maintaining a variety… and the mess, oh my godddd, the mess is unreal! I spend my life in a cycle of cooking and cleaning up food from the floor, high chair, ears, eyes, legs, you name it!

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

Weaning

Hello mamas, could I get some advice please with how and what to wean as started this week with my baby but not really what to give and when what time day. Have started with puree vegetables and making them myself and offering it in the evening to my baby but she tends to get irritated and tired and has a few spoonfulls and then gives up and has a meltdown. So I’m questioning myself am I feeding her wrong time of day and what’s best to mix the food with milk or baby rice please.

Do I need to pay anything when my child starts school in September

I'm a new mum and obviously didn't grow up in the uk. I currently pay roughly £640 for nursery fees. I'm wondering if my expenses will reduce when my LO starts school or there'll be other expenses (besides bags, uniform etc) will my expenses be anywhere close to £600 monthly?

Primary Caretaker Resentment

I am the primary caretaker for my daughter, my partner and I live together & are engaged but I knew it would be this way as he works long hours. I’m struggling with not feeling resentment towards him when I’m responsible for 90% of stuff.

I adjusted my hours so one of us could be home with her some of the time (previously we both worked full time, I’m now part time), I do 5/7 bedtime routines a week, I feed her every meal & I plan her meals. Even though he knows what she eats, he always insists on asking me what to buy, he says it’s because I’m home so it’s what I’m happy to make but he knows it annoys me, he knows how long stuff takes to make, I just ask for quicker meals on the days I wfh.

He also shows no interest in her birthday, her first easter. etc. He says I’m the better planner but I told him it doesn’t come naturally to me & I wish he would show some interest in her first holidays.

I feel like I think about our daughter 24/7 & he thinks about her maybe one day as week.

For context: He works 9am - 11pm roughly Wed-Sun. My Mum has her on a Monday & I am off Tuesday afternoon so he only has her alone Tuesday morning.

He can be very helpful & clean the kitchen or sterilise bottles after work but we have gone through phases where he grumbles about this.

He’s always thinking of things to help me but they hardly ever involve him taking actions, I’m relying on my family a lot which is hard for me.

I feel as though it would barely be different if I was a single mother but I don’t know what I expect him to do given his working hours, it’s just hard to not get annoyed.
