I need an unbiased opinion

Okay bare with, it could be a lengthy one. So me and my husband have been together 7 years. A year or so into our relationship, I went to a family gathering and out of nowhere, his sister in law turned on me. Took me into a side room and told me my husband didn’t love me, only stayed because he felt sorry for me, I wasn’t welcome within the family. it was very upsetting. My husband never confronted her about this which at the time caused a rift between us. Things got resolved and our relationship went from strength to strength. We got engaged and bought a house. At this point, the in laws decided they would give us opinions on everything, was recleaning what I had cleaned, criticised the decorating we had done and gave us recommendations on things to buy from the style of sofa to the colouring of our flooring. These were more of instructions rather than passing thoughts! They became quite huffy if we didn’t go with their recommendations. My husband never had my back, said he didn’t want to upset his parents (despite the fact they were upsetting me) but I understood he didn’t want the conflict. It did cause problems between us. That simmered down once we were all sorted and moved in. We did have the odd comment about the new car I bought, he was disappointed with the engine size, that kind of thing.

Fast forward to October 2023, my little boy was 13 months old and they were caring for him once a week whilst I was at work. There were a couple of issues we wanted to discuss so my husband sent them some very polite messages asking to discuss it. They turned up at our house with several typed up pages of things they were unhappy with within my parenting. Again, my husband never really had my back. Again, another argument between us.

Fast forward again to last month, we moved house. In our old house we were sprucing it up and there was criticisms of how I had repainted the front door, the quality of my gardening tools and all the rest of it. We moved into our new house and the curtains we have bought are too long, the lawn mower we have bought isn’t powerful enough, our ceilings are too low…the list goes on.

On Friday morning, they came to pick up my little boy. I was rushing and heading out the door to work and trying to organise some light bulbs they had asked for. MIL just looked at me and with such a venomous tone said, “ooh you are rude you know!” I was taken aback as that wasn’t my intention. My husband spoke to her that evening and she told him she thought I was often rude, abrupt and spoke to them like naughty school children! He explained their comments towards us were not helpful, but critical and her response was “your dad knows what he is talking about”. No apology.

Anyway, if you have read this far, I just want advice on what on earth to do next. This is causing a wedge in my marriage. I am unhappy, I feel unsupported by my husband and feel like he is reluctant to support me. He said if it wasn’t for me being upset, he wouldn’t bother to say anything. These is another family gathering this afternoon which I’m not going to. He is going with our little boy and I am staying at home. After Friday morning, I can’t face them at the moment. Part of me wants to leave my marriage, I love my husband so much but I shouldn’t have to tolerate this. There have been 9 comments/criticisms within the last 6 weeks and we only see them once a week! I don’t want to break my home up for our little boy and I would be heartbroken, my husband completes me but this with the in laws and his unwillingness to step up to deal with it just has me wondering why in earth I didnt walk away years ago 😞

This is sad and just terrible. Your husband isn’t completing you because he has allowed this awful behavior and his silence is acceptance. You can speak up for you….you are all adults and respect is a two way thing. If you want a happy marriage I would suggest counseling for you both. And for me if you can not respect me then you don’t see the kids (may not be the most popular thought process). It’s just crazy how some families treat people and get joy out of hurting and abusing others.

I wish you luck and I hope you find peace within your situation but remember you have a voice.

You need to lay down the law… I hate to say it but it’s either you or them… you are his family now so you and your son should be top priority… not wanting to upset his parents is BS excuse.

You need to tell him he either stands up for you from here on out or you are done.. this is horrible and you are right you don’t need to deal with his parents nonsense. Do they go to friends houses or strangers houses and tell them how do decorate their house? Probably not and it’s the same at your house whether you are family or not.. I also agree that you may need to limit seeing them or having them over. They should not be disrespecting you in your safe space and they need to know that!

Sooner or later you'll resent your husband over this. They won't change and unless your husband sticks up for you soon, it'll end up too late.
Have you told him you're thinking of leaving? If he'd rather let that happen than stick up for you then you'll always have major family issues.

They are nasty people I would ignore them and in my head tell them to F off with a smile on my face. Your husband does need to tell them to keep their comments to themselves because neither one of you care for their opinion. I would find someone else to watch your child for the one day a week and limit any contact with them.

I’d be telling them all to get in the bin at this point…your husband included.

Why doesn’t he have your back?! That’s not a solidified team.

If he can’t stick up for you and you don’t feel you want to end your marriage then I would cut ties with the family completely and tell your husband that you’re prioritising yourself. He can do as he wishes in terms of seeing them but you’ll have no part of it

Thanks for your replies girls. You have all confirmed my thoughts, I guess I needed to hear it from others because I was worried I was over reacting 🫣 it’s hard when you are constantly second guessing yourself xx

This is terrible. I would have a really serious talk with your husband or even counseling. And definitely distance myself from them. Is there any other option to replace them once a week ? The point is that they really think they have a say in your life because your husband allowed it. If he can't stick and protect you from them, then I would not share anything about your home/your kid/ your life. If they don't know, they can't comment or criticize.
If your husband is not happy about it, you can remind him he didn't do anything to help and you had to stick up for yourself as he was enable to protect you.
Happy couple are those who make healthy boundaries with their families.

So be to clear, I didn’t put everything in the original post as it would be far too long, but there have been occasions where I have stuck up for myself, and I have said things, especially when it has been about my parenting or when I have requested they do something such as communicate with me what my little boy has eaten, how long his nap is etc. they would take him out (and still do!) and I have no idea where they are taking him, what he’s had for his lunch etc. I have asked and asked and get nothing. They tell me I don’t trust them when I ask for information or his mum will become ‘offended’ saying I think she was a bad mum to her boys! Anyway, this all blew up last October and my husband sent some messages explaining how I felt, and her response was that I was too anxious. That’s when they turned up with their printed sheets and spent an hour telling me how I should have done things differently and included them more in his life (the same people who were always busy when I

Messaged them). Anyway my husband sat there like a stuffed dummy, never defended me or my choices once. After they left, I literally poured my plate of food over his head and threw my glass of water over him and told him that’s what happens when he sits and let’s his parents speak to me like that. It was my fault that his family hadn’t seen my little boy enough despite us asking them frequently, it was my fault that I had uploaded their photos of their family on social media, it was my fault that I had followed guidance on passing baby round, car seats etc. I have never felt so hurt by something. Anyway, I don’t make a habit of throwing food over my husband, but in that occasion I lost my temper and that was it. My little boy is on a waiting list for nursery but hoping there to be a place for him ASAP.

He should be supporting you but I also understand not wanting conflict. I know I’m in a similar, slightly toned down situation and my husband doesn’t defend me much either but I also know how these people are and if he were to get too involved they would just make further comments so sometimes maybe it’s best to just try to ignore, trust me I know how hard that can be but maybe they will stop provoking if they receive no reaction from either of you? Good luck anyways ❤️

Resentment and placing blame on partner

Firstly, please don’t judge me - I’m aware all my thoughts aren’t rational and I do already feel badly about them

I’m finding myself becoming easily frustrated, annoyed, and placing a lot of blame on my partner for many things. Now I’d get it if he was rubbish but he’s not - he has the baby straight away when he gets home from work, he lets me get ready and shower before he goes to work, he pitches in with the chores and gives me any time I ask for off. He doesn’t go out loads either.

I do a lot of the mental labour - realising we need more of and purchasing clothes, milk, groceries, deciding dinner, cooking, cleaning, thinking about what baby needs, etc.

However I just find myself annoyed and blaming him for so many things I find difficult. I know this isn’t fair, but it’s almost like I’m angry that he’s finding it easy and I’m not. Angry if I’ve just got the baby to sleep and he doesn’t think and closes doors to loudly. Angry when he doesn’t dress baby warm enough, or when he puts him in a car seat with a coat on. When he forgets a blanket or doesn’t wash his hands and plays with him. When hes snoring and I’ve just got the baby to drift off.

We have had many conversations and he has tried to take loads off me but it never feels like enough for me to stop being annoyed with him.

Am I experiencing some sort of post partum mental health issues? I find myself upset and crying a lot. any advice would help.

Nursery lunches?

My daughter is nearly 10 months old and starting nursery next month. I want to send my daughter in with lunches so I know shes eating healthy meals but I'm honestly so lost as to what to put in her little bento lunch box that will keep till lunch time and doesnt need reheating. Ive been doing loads of baby led weaning at home, but I tend to make it fresh or pull stuff from the freezer I've previously made and defrost and reheat.
Could you show me some of the lunches you've been giving your baby? Or have you been been letting the nursery deal with the food?

Parenting 24/7 is harder than going to work full time?

I’m having a debate with my partner as he’s done nothing to help since. Our 14 month old was born, I’ve done it all alone all day and all night. He gets a break when he comes in from work all night I never get a break
He try’s to tell me it’s harder going to work full time 5 days a week than parenting ALONE 24/7?
What do you think

What would u do? What should i do

So to try to explain this in the best way possible I have a very small apartment.
I opened my back door which leads directly to the laundry room of the building. Lately, I started bringing my son in the laundry room with me because he bangs on the door and tries to get out.

Today I opened the door to get my stuff out of the dryer. I saw I guess my neighbor putting stuff in the washer. It’s a very tight space so I closed the door and was planning on going back after he leave instead of crowding up the space with the baby. Plus I was in shorts and had no bra on, it was an older man.

I latched my door with the dead lock as I usually do so that I do not get locked out and I just left it that way without thinking about it.

I turned my back walk maybe about 5-7steps. My apartment is barely 15 steps front to back.
Turn around. Realize my baby is GONE he’s only 16 months!

I start yelling for him. I approach the door and I hear my son laughing…
The man had opened my door to lure my son in the laundry room with him without me knowing!!!!!!!

They were playing 🤯

He was there for no more then 20-30 seconds if that. It happened so fast, he doesn’t speak good English he’s polish
My door usually slams loud when closed, so this was done quietly…..

When I discovered that the man was with my son, I was trying to simply take my kid back in the house, but he continued on playing and I was yelling at my son that he shouldn’t be wondering without me.

No, first off I know for a fact, my son did not open the door number one. It’s very heavy and number two. He doesn’t know how to open doors yet.

And I asked the man straight out did my son open the door and he said no I did.

My son could get the door to open maybe an inch, I know that. So he must have done that and the man just decided to open it and bring my son with him.

I’m so outraged. Annoyed, uncomfortable. I live alone just me and my son.

What do I do?

I don’t know if he is maybe a visitor, I see his car sometimes but usually it’s another person who looks like him with a different car. Maybe my neighbors dad is my best bet.

Anyway. What should I do? Should I bring this to management. Should I approach my neighbor and figure out exactly who that was?

Thanks ladies wish me luck

Partner is giving me the silent treatment

So I was struggling with my postpartum anxiety bad yesterday. My partner and I was out for drinks with family. He kept making jokes about treating me a bit shit.
Which no one thought was funny. I am usually quite patient about him using me as his jokes, but yesterday it hurt.

When we got home I told him it made me feel disrespected. Now he is giving me the cold fat shoulder?! What do I do ?

FTM

Hello,
FTM here. At what age do you stop applying cream on nappy area during nappy changes? My 2 year old boy isn’t toilet ready yet but uses both nappy pants/pull ups and regular diapers
