How would you handle this.. husband getting on my nerves?

He was my favourite person and best friend but in the last 2-3 months he has basically become the person I want to be around the least

The expectation vs reality of what I thought he would be as a father just hit me like a pile of bricks..
he’s so impatient with our 4mo son and it’s really putting me off.. when I call him out on it or ask him why he does that he just says it’s cause he doesn’t like crying and “sooking”

It also seems like he never wants to spend long stretches of time with us.. he works full time and goes into the office 3 days a week so I don’t expect him to help too much on those days but he will literally just come home and shower for a whole hour and then play games or sit on his phone.. on the other days after work he will go to the gym for 2 or so hours and the same and then on the weekends he will go visit his useless mother both days and also go to gym

Like what even is the point of him having a wife & a kid?

His latest shenanigan is leaving for work yesterday and then going to an office party and staying at his mums house and then coming home at 5pm today…
When I told him tomorrow I want you here the whole day no gym & going to see your mum.. he said that I am a shit person and I am interfering with his health and seeing his family

Well, you are his family too...so you could just as easily flip it and tell him he's a shit person for not spending time with his wife and child...who are also his family. Using the fact that he works and therefore not expecting help as a result is bullshit! I'm quite sure he had no problems making the baby! You went through pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. You also cook, clean, and take care of babe all day so the least he can do is spend time with the family he helped create. I would suggest marital counseling to work through your issues. I hope it works out hun

He is missing his son growing up, and that is his family and future heir! Is his mom sick, or is he just saying he is there and hanging with friends instead? Sometimes, men are just selfish. When do you get a break for your health? Do you have family or friends close by to help you?

Avatar

Do the same to him. Get up in the morning, shower, hand him the baby and leave. Go to the gym, out to the lunch, whatever you want. If he can, you can

Avatar

I know you’re frustrated but don’t lead with anger. Try to understand how he feels & ask for some time off for yourself too, you need it! You SHOULD go to gym, etc, have your own life outside of being momma 🙏

As far as the impatient with the baby, you may want to try leading by example. If he sees you can do it, maybe he will get the hint

I'm not taking his side. Having a baby is a huge change. The most wonderful change. But sometimes people find it difficult. Men struggle too. Men can also suffer from ppd although can be rare. You need to sit down with him, not with anger and discuss his feelings. He might not be intending to be an awful husband and Dad. Especially when he hasn't shown signs like this towards you in the past.
He also needs to understand how you're feeling too, and that you need time to yourself too. My son is 3 and I was feeling so tired today and run down. so I said to husband, I need time to myself and took myself off for a nap. Xx

My man works insane odd hours days and nights ranging from 8 to 16 hour days 5 to 6 days a week for his job and still comes home to help with our 8 week old daughter.. actions speak louder than words if you communicate and he refuses to listen then it may be time to make a change for your and baby sake.

I am going through something very similar with my husband, except he works from home so he is always here but always"working" or its his relaxing time, where he just stares into his phone. he can't handle our son for more than 5 mins and only interacts with him when he is in a good mood and that's mostly just talking to him from a distance, it's really disappointing bc I really thought he would be a better father also. So no advice but I feel what your going through and I know how much it hurts your heart for you but especially for your son. You will never get this special time again and it's a time to be cherished. His favorite thing to say to me is "I can't help it I'm not the one with the tits!" Like seriously?! It pisses me off to no end! I'm honestly thinking very seriously of divorce, I will try everything I can before that but I never thought that would even be a thought in my mind. It hurts so much bc we are still adjusting and healing from childbirth and they are so damn selfish.

First, so sorry you are dealing with this behavior. Sounds like he is overwhelmed with parenting and decided to bail out, which as the secondary parent he can easily do.

The going to his mother’s house instead of home rubs me the wrong way because it feels like he is trying to stay the kid instead of learning to parent.

If he was your best friend until recently try talking to him about it? Give examples of what you’d like him to do or help with and make it clear it’s a fraction of what you do and he needs to help. He may not realize his regular and extended “me time” is weighing on you so much.

My husband is a bit more helpful and still doesn’t get it sometimes 🫠

Good luck!

same!!! The other day after only holding our LO for 5-10min he hands her back and I’m like you can do whatever it is AND hold her like I do 🙄 and he goes “I can’t, I have to make tea” I just burst out laughing because it was such a ridiculous excuse. Normally I get upset and call BS but it was just too absurd and I needed the laugh.

Avatar

for real!! 🤣 Like why do we have to be the one to hold the baby and just figure it out, this may be TMI but I've had to use the bathroom with him strapped to me and you can't hold him and do anything?! You just figure it out just like we mamas do. I guess if we never make them then they never have to. Honestly I don't trust him enough to leave LO with him though which is just sad... a couple weeks ago I was outside for a much needed break and he screamed at him to shut up! It just made it worse and our baby started screaming his head off. I was like did you really just scream at a 4 month old?! Like grow up dude that's not gonna help a thing and just gonna piss everyone off. Go scream into a pillow or something. Is your guy also jealous of your baby like mine is?

Avatar

mines the exact same.. tells him to shut up. What’s wrong with these idiot men

Avatar

Guys can also get postnatal depression, it’s more like separation, he might need to see a counselor

Avatar

@Jeni finally somebody not attacking the men. As frustrating as it is, they can struggle too. X

Avatar

we attack the men because so often when the men struggle they check out. Women struggle too but we do what we need to do

Avatar

@Heather yep true that they can check out. Because they find it harder to talk about it. They are mostly embarrassed and feel they have to man up. Which in turn we automatically just think arsehole. Now by all means I'm not sticking up for this ladies husband, but if he has changed since having baby , out of character for him , acting like an "arsehole" snapping. There could be some hidden issues xx

Avatar

Yeap I’ve fed her while in the loo 🫣 perfecting the 1 arm hold. I think I have serious biceps now lol

Luckily he hasn’t had outbursts at the baby, he is more patient with her than me ( and same vice versa because we know she can’t help it).

I think we both miss each others attention so for every kiss we give the baby we try to include the other. But it’s hard and tiffs happen🫠

Avatar

I’m so sorry :( this really sucks.
Have a good chat with him. Get someone to mind the baby, and have a nice dinner just you & him. See if he will open up.
He’s probably struggling with losing all his freedom etc. young babies need their mums more so he might feel left out.
You deserve a present partner and your child deserves a present father. But communication is key. If he can open up and explain why he’s behaving like this, and he can feel supported by you, it will improve

I've finally done it

I have finally done it. I have finally become the trope, the stereotype.

I have become bitter, resentful, and very overwhelmed and overloaded. I am very unhappy and hit burnout. And I snapped at my husband last night. I work full-time, and work has been very busy so im working late a lot. Im also in grad school. I also have a toddler that has become VERY clingy with me. My husband works shorter days but commutes, so he usually gets home after me by an hour or more. When he gets home, he usually heads to the restroom for at least 30 mins when he gets home. And now my toddler doesnt want anything to do with him. So im doing all the toddler duties until bed. I dont get 5 mins to myself. Not for almost 2 years. I finally hit my wall. I have also, somehow, become my MILs medical ride service and she somehow has an appt every week, it seems?! Shes not sick!! My husband was complaining that he needs to change routine to fit in a workout sometimes, and I lost it. I have been BEGGING for 5 mins to myself for months. I have been telling him how im not good, im going to burn out for months. And between his attitude and him complaining (which really got me b/c he blames me for not being able to work out?! Saying I need help when he gets home so he just cant workout now) I just lost it completely. I told him how unfair my life has become and I have the entire mental and emotional load and it is just not fair. He got mad at me and said "hes trying" when hes literally not trying at all. What do I do?? No one is taking the load from me! And im done and dont know what to do now.
I do not like this version of me.

AITA?

This isn't a major issue, just wondering if I'm being a bit of an asshole.

• I do shift work, 5 out of 7 days, full-time.
• My partner works from home (mostly, sometimes he goes into the office) M-F, full-time.

Anyway, whenever I have a day off during the week he gets in his feelings when I make myself food (breakfast and lunch) but not him. His reason is he's working, I'm not - Which is fair but I've asked him how many times on a weekend has he gotten up, on his day off and made me breakfast and a lunch to take with me to work? You guessed it, 0.

So basically, just because I'm at home I don't think the responsibility to feed him should automatically fall on me when he manages to feed himself just fine while I'm at work.

Big vent!

Hi mums.
I'm a first time mum in my 40s to twin boys. They are almost 5 months old and the biggest miracle in my life!
I am struggling!!!
I'm pretty sure I have ppa as my pregnancy was a very high risk and all I remember was crying from anxiety of all the ifs!Thankfully even born at 35 weeks and skinny, didn't need iu time.
My husband is not helping much because he's always too busy with work.He will "look" after them usually between 8pm-12am so I can have a chance to sleep.
He expects me to just sleep when I touch the pillow, even though I hear tje babies crying and him don't really bother because most of the times he'll be on his laptop working.
When I tell him I can't relax to fall asleep because I feel you r neglecting the babies,he says I'm the problem becauae I'm always there with them and don't give them alone time!!
I am angry!!I am furious!!
I can't keep.up.with housework becauae someone alwaya neess me and most of the times they nap I either cook and clean tje kitchen,do laundry or try and take a quick nap.
He doesn't help.around the house,becauae..guess what?always super busy.
I asked him nicely we could clean the house together every Saturday morning so it's easier and quicker for both of us and he said no,because he has a lot of work but probably wants to sleep until 12 or 2.
2 days ago a button of his coat ripped and I told him I'll sew it these days.
Earlier this morning while running late for his work,as always,he weara the coat and told him didn't get the chance to fix the button and sarcastically said..of.course u didn't!!!
I spent all night awake because one of the babies had congested nose and we've been trying to reduce one fees at night.
I wanted to punch him!!He left and I started crying...I cry so much, even at 5 months pp...
I can't go on like this anymoreeeee...
The crying in my ears is constant..my head is always numb..I've gained so much weight and can't find the strength to get back on track..
Even if I try to.find a therapist to just talk,is it gonna help?I really don't know😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Avoidant husband

I love my husband and he is a good man. We have some issues in our relationship however, as he has an avoidant attachment style (finds romance/intimacy/being emotional difficult). This comes from him having to be independent from a young age and having quite an abusive mother.
The issues in our relationship are mainly around a lack of sex and intimacy. I think the problem is that to feel turned on, I need to feel connected and wanted. My husband (being avoidant) will usually make jokes about being horny whereas I would want to have someone make me feel beautiful/sexy to get in the mood.
It sounds terrible but I've sometimes had dreams about exes that would make me feel this way, and the romance we had (eye contact, intensity, deep words). It makes me feel really guilty but I feel like i'm starved of that. My husband would like a lot more sex but I can't always force myself if I'm not feeling it.
We've spoken a bit about therapy but I know its often really expensive so we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Do you have any suggestions please? I know that neither of us are wrong in what we want, just different but I'm scared about whether we can fix it or if we're doomed?

BLW Advice!

Did anyone else baby have a hard time with textures when it pertains to solids. My son is 9 months and he still only eats the food that is mashed or puree. Do you think this is a phase? Or does anyone have any tips?

Toddler snacks in the morning ?

Hey.

My 14m is clearly going through a growth spurt. He’s a fussy eater but recently started having two breakfasts with the childminder and that’s even after milk in the morning.

He wakes at 6am and we leave around 7:05am. Has 6oz when he wakes but then is seemly hungry looking for snacks before we leave. The only issue is, he’s a fussy eater and won’t sit and eat fruit etc so struggling to think what I can give him that’s suitable.

Any fussy eater suitable ideas of what I can make or get him to snack on whilst we finish getting ready to get out the door?
