anyone who has been induced, is there any advice you’d give a first time mom who’s being induced at 40 weeks? By the way I’m not dilated at all but I do have high blood pressure, so that’s why they’re deciding to induce me. Also did they let you eat before they started pitocin???

Listen to your body and the doctors. If you don’t think it’s time for your water to be popped, tell them no. I felt pressured to have mine popped when it did and after popping it, I didn’t dilate quicker like they hoped. I knew my body wasn’t ready and it ended up with me in labor for 26 hours and an emergency c section where I was crying and scared the whole time. Be your own advocate.

I was induced. They did not let me eat or drink water only ice chips. The doctor had to break my water (It doesn’t hurt at all) Eat before going and get the epidural if you want. I didn’t want it at all, but once I hit 6cm I couldn’t handle the pain (& I have high pain tolerance) Got the epidural (don’t move) and after that the whole pregnancy was good just try not to give birth on your back. I didn’t give birth on my back and my back doesn’t hurt. I had pitocin and not the balloon. I didn’t want anything inside me. You got this! Don’t worry :)

I was induced at 39+5 with my first due to reduced movement. I had been having on and off prodromal labor for a month so I knew I was ready just couldn’t get started on my own. Had a pessary inserted at 3 and 9 pm (uk). and they broke my waters at 2 am. Baby was born 3 pm next day never needed Pitocin as i started dilating all on my own after my waters broke (was undialated at the start and after almost 12 hours of pessary was only 1.5). As i was in the UK i was allowed to eat and drink all i wanted. i even ended up in theater prepped for an emergency section (baby HR wasn't coming down between contractions) they always try forceps in theater here before cutting if at 10 cm. as you are in the US i would eat a meal high in calories with a good balance of protein carbs as they will probably try and keep you from eating (if someone smuggles you snacks they cant stop you but probably will cry but what if you puke/aspirate!)…

Labor is hard work! And induction sucks because of an artificial contraction pattern and tends to be more intense. I’d rather puke than dry heave and the risk of aspiration if you go under is low. I personally would eat/drink and tell them to shove it.

Sit up no matter how badly it hurts to do. This was the worst birth I ever had. I finally broke down to get the epidural because he wasn't coming. As soon as I sat up to get the epidural he started coming right away. If you aren't dilating ask for the balloon. It sped up the dilation. It's uncomfortable but it was in place for maybe 40 mins and then came out. Everyone has different experiences so don't think yours will be horrific or the worst ever. Many women prefer to be induced and have successful and happy labors. Having 3 naturally and 1 induced I have a different gage than someone who hasn't had a baby yet or someone with an epidural. I don't even know if my preeclampsia was part of the issue for this birth to be worse or I was stuck in a bed and not walking and having free movement.

I was induced with my first barely 1cm. I went in Monday and had her Wed PM. They will most likely break your water. Bring enough snacks, chap stick, sandals for the bathroom, download enough TV shows or movies just in case you can't connect to their wifi, bring your own pillow and blanket ...Hopefully it goes faster for you but you'll most likely be in there for a min of 4 days ...I was there mon through sat. I am sure the comments above have more info. It was a long process for me and took awhile to be dilated before pushing. Good luck 🙏🙌💜

My 1st was induced and I'd just make sure they give you all your options and explain them. They told me all about them but I still didn't get to really choose. They just said they were gonna do the balloon. They told me the risks of the balloon and I was the 4th person out of hundreds she accidentally broke waters with it🫠😂 I was only 1cm dilated so pitocin it was. To be real, I don't think it's possible to get through labour on pitcon without epidural (my experience). I was stuck at 1cm dilated for 12 hours with non stop back to back contractions and gas n air didn't work, it took the anesthetic team and midwifes to convince me epidural but im glad I did. I ate before it but they won't let you eat once you've started it. Only flat sugary drinks or water my midwife let me have! So lucozade sport all the way😂 My best advice is don't feel like you can't take the pain relief. I was disheartened and fought it but ended up worse off for doing that. Stress makes you dilate slower I found out x

Also if you feel that urge to push, don't let them shrug it off just bcus its your 1st! I mentioned 3 times I felt like I needed to push in a 30 min period, on epidural, and it took me saying i was worried about it alot for her to check and my baby was in the canal already! She was right there and midwife was shocked too. You know your body best, so make sure they listen to you x

Rest in any small moments you have as it can easily go from 0-100! I would second all the advice given here too esp knowing your body and when you have the urge to push. I was also told it wasn't time and could take 5 hrs to fully dilated from 5cm but I went from 5cm to baby out in 41 mins!!

I’ve been induced twice.. with my first daughter I had cervidil inserted and was left in for roughly 12hrs. They took it out and had me stay over night, early next morning they checked bubs heart beat before breaking my waters. Once they broke my waters, she was born 25min later (she is my second child). Then my 4mth old I got induced again, got cervidil inserted & left in for about 8hrs. When they removed this they then put the balloon in which stayed in over night. Wasn’t heaps painful, but was uncomfortable some Panadol fort so I could try get some sleep. Next morning (roughly 10hrs later) they took balloon out & broke my waters. They waited about 2hrs to see if I would labour naturally, but nothing was really progressing so they hooked me up to the drip & then once that got going, Bub was out about 45min later. I suggest to try & keep on your feet as much as possible. I would walk through my contractions, concentrate on deep breaths and try & push on all 4s or knees. All the best ♥️

The wait you have for your water to break. It's so nerve-racking! You're gonna be expecting it to happen since an induction. The pop is wild. You will feel everything at one and one that thing pops almost instant pain. I was induced with both kids, and c-section for both...only one was scheduled

Then they will give you epidural after a bit

You can eat until you get an epidural. Also, they may use a folly balloon to help you dilate, ask for pain meds with this. Other than that, you will do great! I was induced at 37 weeks and had my son at 37+3. My body didn't want to cooperate, but it was a smooth process, even with it taking so long. You got this!

Get the epidural

I was induced- only thing I have to say is, with the high blood pressure concern, if they suggest giving you magnesium, ask if it's necessary or if there's something else.
I took it and didn't know- it gives you flu-like symptoms and they have you take it all the way till 24hrs after birth. I was delirious!

I advise don’t do it unless it’s life-threatening for you or the baby. She/he is almost ready.!!!. Best of luck🫶

Sister in law had the balloon in. Wouldn't recommend it.

i got to eat before pitocin! my only advice is get the drugs lol. it make the experience actually enjoyable! before the drugs i was afraid i was going to die. the pain was so extreme. so get some drugs and enjoy your birth!
