Appointment post 20 weeks with Obstetrics Clinic

I've just received an appointment letter when I will be 21 weeks with the Obstetrics Clinic at the John Radcliffe. I had my 12 week scan two days ago and as far as I was aware everything was normal and I haven't had a call to say my bloods say otherwise. I'm 35 and did have OC in my first pregnancy so I wonder whether it's because of my age or previous condition that I'm having the extra appointment. The number my GP has given me is closed until tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience/ appointment and can shed some light? Thanks!

I have this appointment tomorrow, I've just turned 21 weeks. Similar to you I'm not 100% sure what it's for, I've got high blood pressure but this appointment was made before it was diagnosed. I'll report back so you know what to expect :-)

Thanks so much! Sounds like a routine appointment in that case. Thank you, will be great to know what it's all about 😊

I also didn’t know why i was booked one and when i asked my midwife she said it was bc we did IVF they just want to have an extra appt with us. I ended up having some abnormalities in my 20weeks scan so needed the appointment anyways but I think there can be a lot of random reasons they put the appointment in for you.

That's helpful, thank you! I'm sure it's because of my age and the fact I had a medical condition in my last pregnancy then. Always good to have an extra check up 😊. I hope everything is okay with you and your baby!

hi Allie! Hope your 20 week appointment went okay? Did they explain why they booked it? If you're happy to share what procedures they did, I'd be so interested to know. Thank you 😊

we didn’t discuss anything about the IVF which I think is why the appt was booked in the first place, but instead spoke about the risks with this pregnancy because of the measurement of my blood flow from the placenta to the baby that was flagged at my 20wk scan. For the appt was weighed and blood pressure with a midwife and then met with the OB and she just spoke to me about what that blood flow value means and chance of me being induced early. Took soo long though with the waiting to be called in, so bring a book or something!

thank you that's really helpful, makes me think mine will be focused on the fact I had Obstetrics Cholelithiasis in my last pregnancy then as I am likely to get it again and would need to be induced again. Thanks for the heads up - will definitely take a book with me 😊

I had this one and it was because I am very allergic and tiny. So it was to discuss ways of birth and pain reliefs. So if you have any kind of ā€œdifferentā€ situation they may invite you to talk to the OC

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

2nd pregnancy after c section

I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but in the future possibly. I just wanted to know how is pregnancy after c section like my fear is having to go through another emergency operation or even putting strain on my incision during pregnancy

Baby Movements

Hello, I’m a FTM currently 18W5D pregnant. I’ve been getting this tugging feeling in my stomach after I eat, it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I don’t know whether that’s the baby moving or round ligaments pain.

I’ve also been getting round ligament pain which is either a sharp stabbing pain or a stretching sensation. These happens whether or not I’ve eaten while the tugging feeling is only after I’ve eaten.

So, could the tugging feeling be the baby or something else.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.
