Little one has just decided that he wants to sleep on his stomach with his face buried into his mattress all the time, he can roll both ways and move his head, however it fills me with anxiety that he is going to suffocate himself! I go in and turn him over when I notice but I fear sometimes it’s disrupting his sleep, is this something I need to do or will he be okay left to his own devices and just roll over, all and any help/advice appreciated

I remember feeling so anxious when my little boy first did this, I was also going in and turning him - this was more when he didn’t know how to roll both ways.
If your LO can roll both ways, there is no need to move him. He knows how to move around so can get himself in and out of the position
NHS advice states -
Do not put your baby to sleep on their side or tummy.
Once your baby is old enough to roll over, there's no need to worry if they turn onto their tummy or side while sleeping. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/caring-for-a-newborn/reduce-the-risk-of-sudden-infant-death-syndrome/#:~:text=Place%20your%20baby%20on%20their%20back%20to%20sleep%20from%20the,on%20their%20side%20or%20tummy.

Also to add, my little boy only goes to sleep on his side or front now and has done from 9 months old. You’ll eventually get used to it though scary at first!

ah lovely thank you, in the back of my head I did think he would be okay but you always have that little niggle telling you to turn them over just in case don’t you! X

My little girl sleeps on her belly she’s nearly 10 months old. When she started doing this I was so paranoid turning her back all the time and by the time I’d leave her room she’d be back on her front. I got told if they can roll both ways then sleeping on front is okay X

if it makes you feel better and assured he’s okay and safe keep turning him over, if he’s staying asleep during the rolling process I don’t think you are interrupting his sleep cycle, just put your hand on his chest after rolling over.

haha yes! By the time I’m back in my room he’s on his belly again, haha! Going to try not to turn him over tonight and see how I go!

haha ooo I didn’t know about breathable mattresses, will have to look into it, I saw him on his front last night and tried to just observe and leave him and we all woke up happy as Larry this morning so I think it’s more of a panic thing from me haha! It’s reassuring to hear that other people little ones are also doing the same thing though! X
