I have two little girls.
My oldest just started Kindergarten and my middle child just started Pre-k, both at the same small private school.
My oldest had two years of Pre-K there and had the same teacher both years that she absolutely adored. To be fair, we love her as well, she’s an amazing teacher, so sweet and intuitive…we couldn’t have had a better first experience into school.
Now my youngest has her as her Pre-k teacher as well which is cool! She is familiar with her from attending her sisters school events, so she is SO EXCITED to have her and that it’s her turn for school now too.
My oldest has a new teacher and new kids. She seems great, but my daughter understandably is missing her old teacher and jealous her baby sister gets her now. Three times in a row at pickup, she is low energy and her teacher mentions she was sad part of the day because she misses her old teacher. 🥺 She still gets to see her at the end of the day and give her a hug, but she isn’t adapting to the change happily and I feel really bad! I’ve tried to explain to her how it’s okay to miss her and she’ll still see her around and that her new class seems very fun, if just takes time….but she doesn’t really respond much, just a very sad “okay”….
Any advice? I feel guilty and bad for her…I’ve never gotten feedback about any of my kids being sad..they’re usually so happy and high energy! I’m sure it’ll fade but I dunno. It’s also worse because of sibling rivalry and her sister has claimed what was HER teacher ya know? 😩

I think it will just take time. Don't try to "fix" it.
Talk about fun stuff she is doing and learning in kindy though ☺️

I agree it’s just very new for her. It’s part of life to have to learn to adapt, so I’d just give it some time. She doesn’t know her new teacher and new kids in class. My son almost cried when he found out his bestie little gf wasn’t in his grade 1 class and is still talking about it… but I can’t control what class people are in

Maybe hype up the big kid stuff that the prek class can't do and how excited you are for her to try new things. A lot of big things are happening for her this year. Help her feel proud of being more grown up now and a leader for her sister.

My youngest son had a preschool teacher 2 years in a row and then a different teacher his 3rd year of preschool. I would tell him how cool I thought his new teacher was, what I liked about her, and asked him what he liked about her, asked him.about the kids in his class, and told him he would see his old teacher in the hallway or something. He eventually stopped being sad and started enjoying his days at school.
