Is Homemade Soup Cheaper than Canned Soup?

It honestly really depends. I've made homemade soups that were much cheaper, lasted longer, and were much healthier than canned. Personally I've always made homemade cause I've never liked the taste of caned soups. With that being said I've also made soups that were more expensive, but they did last me longer and were much more nutritional, healthy, and hardy then canned soups. My go to for being cheap is chicken cabbage soup with a vegetable broth. You can find vegetable broth for pretty cheap, chicken is in my opinion the cheapest meat there is out there right now and very versatile, and a whole cabbage can make a massive soup. I've made one last me a whole week before (when stored properly) and you can put pretty much whatever veggies you like in it, potatoes and pepper go a long way in a chicken cabbage soup. Also carrots, and radishes are some of my favorites to put in it. If you have I also recommend some lemon pepper in it.

If you really wanna go cheaper but still good, sometimes I'll use a small can of tomato paste, a small thing of vegetable or chicken broth and then just add water to you liking, it'll make a huge tomato base broth which is really nice in the winter, or at least that's my opinion

One big thing you can do to be healthier, I think but not a doctor, is to make food at home and this is typically cheaper. Like I buy a whole chicken roast it and save all the bones in a freezer bag, wait until I have about 3 chickens, make the stock and then freeze that for when I want soup. The stock is essentially free and frozen directly after I made it so it is fresh frozen and has no preservatives that way. I usually make chicken noodle or dumpling type soups with this. Which just takes a couple celery stalks, carrots and usually frozen peas, plus a bit of pasta noodles and I try to use some of the leftover chicken from the most recent roasted bird. Just doing the "math" in my head per serving this is around 1$ per person. It is much healthier and due to the high yield a lot more cost effective. Does it take some time and effort yes but it always tastes amazing 😊

Its generally cheaper because you get a lot more servings out of a pot of homemade soup.

I buy the better than bullion jars of soup base instead of always buying broth. They last a loong time and are great for adding to chili and other recipes tgat only use a little broth.

I use a combination of fresh and canned vegetables in my soups. Canned tomatoes are generally preferable to fresh for soup. You can also add canned beans. Beans are great for breastfeeding because they contain iron!
