The mental toll of being woken up multiple times a night for almost a year 😓

When the monitor crackles and lights up I want to scream. Even in ‘good’ sleep periods its still a few times per night. My baby often wakes and cries for a few mins then goes back to sleep but I am still woken up. I would rather be awake for a long time than the torture of just getting back to sleep then they wake again. When will it end??

Oh myyyy, tell me about it 😩 I keep reminiscing about the days when I could sleep for 10/12 hours straight if I wanted (pre-baby obvs!)...the physical and mental toll of the sleep deprivation is honestly the hardest thing and makes me so scared about going back to work. Not sure when it ends, but keep trying to remember that this is only a relatively short phase in our lives, and one day we will miss them needing us so much 🥹

Yes omg 😭 Now I would kill for even 6-7 hours straight. Im scared for work too I dont know how I will cope.

Maybe I am misremembering but I even feel like the early days around like 2-3 months werent as bad, my baby was sleeping like 4-5 hours then, woke for a bottle and back to sleep fairly easily and them being next to us in the room meant it was easier. Now we dont know why they wake and it can be like every hour 😖

Yes. One of the most annoying things for me is when I’ve been up with the baby, he goes back to sleep and then I can’t sleep!! I’ve been up since 4 this morning because the baby very briefly needed me but then I’ve not been able to get back to sleep! 😴 😴 😴

Been up since 5am with my son. It’s exhausting! I really thought by now we’d be getting more sleep but it’s the worst it’s ever been! I think it’s more exhausting now as they need to be entertained more, when they were newborns you could kind of just hold them all day 😅

I was saying this exact thing the other day. In the newborn days I was up more frequently but found it easier as I was still getting a lot of time in the day to just sit holding my sleeping baby, drink tea and watch Netflix! Now I don’t get a second to chill.

I lost it and starting sobbing after 3 wake ups in two hours 😔😔😔 It was 6 overall last night

I turned my monitor on silent mode for that reason! Could still see my baby on video if I needed to and with my door open I could hear her without the monitor if she did start properly crying. Just meant I wasn’t waking up every time she made any grunting noises or cried out in her sleep.
Made the world of difference so might be worth a shot for you!

thank you I might give this a try!!!

Definitely worth doing! If your baby doesn’t wake crying because they need a feed etc then try to have the confidence to know that you don’t need to hear every cry or noise they make - when I realised that my baby did a lot of ‘crying out’ in their sleep it made me realise I didn’t need to be waking up to those sounds. Trust me you would hear them without the monitor if they are crying because they need something cause I think these days we are all hardwired to be light sleepers so we can hear our babies without the need of the monitor.
You need your sleep mama!! X

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Crawling

Did anyone’s little one start crawling yet? I feel like we are falling behind but really have no idea. I’m trying to introduce more floor time but it’s been rough because of having hardwood floors and our 80 lb oblivious to life dog. I got us a carpet for the living room and trying to put the dog out more when the weather allows. She sits like a pro and will roll to get the things she needs😅 but no real signs of crawling yet.
