So my little one had her 1 year check up with both her pediatrician and her nutritionist. The data from the pediatrician says she is 99th for height and 83rd for weight and says she is perfectly fine as long as she continues to gain weight. Meanwhile her nutritionist is saying she is underweight and that is concerning. I’m not sure who to lean with, I want to believe I’m doing everything right and feeding her correctly but I’m having doubts now. My little one doesn’t cry from hunger and sometimes she’ll even leave food behind and signal that she’s finished. I’m just at a loss here on what to do. I don’t want to over feed her but I don’t want to accidentally let her be hungry either. Any advice on how to deal with this information??

Is the nutritionist a registered dietitian?

I’m pretty sure she is, cause she works through the wic program

I would check. Not all nutritionists are dietitians. Personally I would listen to the pediatrician but that’s just me

Was this one simultaneous check up with both of them in the same room? I'm just trying to understand how they could have such wildly different opinions. Based on those percentages she is taller than basically all girls her age and heavier than most girls her age so how could she be underweight? Is she premie or was something else going on that might affect how they look at the numbers? Do you mind me asking how much she weighs?

If she is eating 3 meals a day plus maybe a snack or two and having her milk around 16-20oz I think she is just fine. If she eats till she is all done then she is fine. Idk why they would worry you. Some kids are just naturally skinnier than others just like BMI in adults it means nothing as long as your healthy

no, her pediatrician appointment came first in the day then the appointment with the nutritionist was after it. And she was full term even stayed a week later than she was supposed to. So I don’t understand what else could factor in to get two different responses. She is 22lbs. Plus the girl has a gut on her, looks like a dang beer belly sometimes

her pediatrician isn’t a fan of the bmi scale but still showed me the graph anyways and it puts her smack dab in the middle with height and weight

My daughter is 23 lbs and is in the 98th percentile and is 76 percent for height and my dr said she is good.

The average is 19.9 to 21.9 lbs for a 1 year old girl

She sounds perfectly healthy and from what you said it sounds like she knows when she's full so I don't think there would be any reason to try to force her to eat more. And her pediatrician said she's good so I would trust that.

My little girl is 17 pounds and 28.5 inches and the pediatrician and the nutritionist are fine with her height/ weight. Just wanted to give you this for reference

She sounds perfectly healthy mama (:

She is tall her weight is not going to show up like other kids they act the same with my son, if she’s eating good and your not concerned I wouldn’t worry and probably look for a new nutritionist.
