Just bought this bottle steriliser second-hand and... Is this limescale, or dried milk/formula?
Doesn't look as bad as it did when I started cleaning it, but does anyone have any advice on how to clean this off? This is the electrical base so I don't want to introduce any liquids if I can help it

We have the same problem - it’s limescale I think, shouldn’t cause any problems just doesn’t look very nice

no worries, thank you. I'm going to give it one empty cycle, just to get used to it and make sure everything is working

also, I'm using cooled boiled water, is this necessary?? It says to use tap water, but I'm worried about using water directly from the tap

Will be limescale we have same on ours. Tao water will be fine as it’s boiled really hot during the cycle to sterilise the bottles anyway x but if you have the time and want to use sterile water go for it there’s no harm in it though half related I did see something about not reboiling water for babies bottles x

Can I ask what to do once the cycle has finished? Everything is very hot so I'm unsure how to disassemble and dry all the pieces x

Take the lid off let it cool a little or use some kind of plastic tweezers that sometimes come with a steriliser to remove all the pieces and then assemble with clean hands :) I place all the clean pieces on to some kitchen roll on the side and then assemble they cool down quite quick once taken out x

amazing, thank you so much x

Oooh I'll try that, thank you! X

White vinegar will do the trick x

Its limescale. Sterilisers are meant to be sterilised once a month however if you live in a hard water area even sooner than this. I have to descale weekly or it looks like this as I live in an extremely hard water area. Regular descales used for irons, coffee machines etc works. You can also use vinegar but it won’t work as well. There really isn’t a way of removing it without introducing liquid.
