Beans

Hi mums, I want to give beans to my baby (7 months old), is the canned beans alright or the dried one better? Also do you have any recommendations on how do you serve beans for blw?
Thank you

Canned beans have a lot of sugar in them so I'd avoid.

I went on a course about weening and the paediatrician said that low salt/sugar beans are okay but not recommended too much x

i do low sugar/salt tinned beans ☺️

We just use tinned beans but rinse them before cooking. The Tesco ones are all just tinned in water. We make a mixed bean chilli and just mash any whole beans.

What sort of beans are you talking about? Like plain beans you either buy in tins of salt water or dry packets you have to soak yourself (which is what it sounds like you’re talking about) or do you mean baked beans?

I have tried them all. Tin is alright for convenience but dried beans is always going to be best, then making them into whatever to plan to do with them.. the only thing is, not everyone has the time to be soaking beans overnight then cooking them and Turing it them into whatever you need it for.

If it’s baked beans, iv tried making them from dried beans too and I wasn’t quite a fan as it was missing the taste I recognise from Heinz🤦🏽‍♀️. I don’t buy low sugar anything though because it will then add sweeteners which are not good for your health.. I’d rather the actual sugar and salt over sweeteners.. after all your little one really won’t eat that much🤷🏽‍♀️

Canned beans are absolutely fine. Other than baked beans they have no added sugar. I made red kidney bean patties which she loves.

If you’re talking about baked beans, then there’s reduced salt & sugar options. If you’re wanting to try beans generally then some tinned beans come in water - just check whether it’s water or brine as the latter will be very salty.
With dried beans, you can pressure cook them as Barbara suggests, or if you don’t have a pressure cooker then you can soak them overnight in water. The packet will probably include instructions for this. Soaking them makes them softer & easier to cook, and helps break down the starches that can cause gas, gastrointestinal discomfort etc 🙂

My kid loved the canned black beans!

Whatever you have access to will benefit your baby. When buying canned, i look for no salt no sugar added beans and BPA free lining. When cooking dried, i use a regular pot (not a pressure cooker) and cook more than i need and freeze the extra in mason jars.

I use canned beans all the time for my baby. I mix them into a chilli/ soup etc. and puree until mashed consistency

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

Weaning

Hello mamas, could I get some advice please with how and what to wean as started this week with my baby but not really what to give and when what time day. Have started with puree vegetables and making them myself and offering it in the evening to my baby but she tends to get irritated and tired and has a few spoonfulls and then gives up and has a meltdown. So I’m questioning myself am I feeding her wrong time of day and what’s best to mix the food with milk or baby rice please.

Do I need to pay anything when my child starts school in September

I'm a new mum and obviously didn't grow up in the uk. I currently pay roughly £640 for nursery fees. I'm wondering if my expenses will reduce when my LO starts school or there'll be other expenses (besides bags, uniform etc) will my expenses be anywhere close to £600 monthly?

Separation Anxiety

Any of your children have separation anxiety. My son will be two soon and he still does not let us leave the room for even a few minutes without him following us. Is this the norm for anyone else??
