90th percentile measurement at 28 weeks

Hi all,

I wrote a few days ago that I felt bigger in this pregnancy compared with my last and yesterday my bump was measured for first time. I was told he is on the 90th percentile, the midwife didn’t seem concerned at all and sent me on my way but I’ve looked on the NHS website since and it sounds like it is a concern - should I be worried?

My first son was on the 50th the whole time and me and my husband are quite small so not sure what’s different this time. I had a really smooth labour last time so I think I’m feeling anxious I won’t this time if baby is much bigger.

Has anyone got any experience with this that could offer some reassurance?

At this stage I wouldn’t worry at all. At my 28week appointment my bump was measuring above 97th percentile, I had a scan the same week because of something else & baby himself was actually measuring on the 50th percentile.

When they measure just the bump it’s really inaccurate. People carry different & could be down to other factors like water etc. I carry really big, my bumps bigger than my friend who is due 8 weeks before me.

At your next appointment they’ll measure again & if it’s any concern they’ll send you for a growth scan but I wouldn’t worry at the moment 😊

The main thing they'll look for is the growth overtime and that the measurements are in line on the same trajectory on the graph. Having one measurement being 90th percentile doesn't really tell you much. How baby lays, who measures and how they measure can all affect the accuracy. Scans are slightly more accurate but even then they're not to be trusted fully. I wouldn't worry, the midwife would tell you if she was concerned/ you would be sent for a growth scan if they were concerned by it.

It’s not accurate. My first my bump was measuring 75th percentile and baby was below the 10th. So I wouldn’t worry.

I was told i was having a big baby with my first and that i was measuring on the 97th percentile but baby was born between the 9th and 25th.

The ultrasounds and measurements unfortunately just aren’t very accurate, i wouldn’t worry! I was told my son was < 3% and we got sent to all of these extra appointments and he came out at 7lbs 4 oz and was perfectly normal

Measurements are notoriously inaccurate. But also, just know the difference between 50th percentile and 90th percentile is like a fraction of a pound, so it really won’t make a big difference at all. Especially if you’re a small person, your baby can only grow to as much room as it has in there. They told me my first son was projected 99th percentile/10lbs and then he was born full term at 6lbs, and was the skinniest baby. 😂

Don’t stress it!

I measured on the 50th centile the whole time with my first and then when he was born prematurely at 34 weeks he was 6lbs! They estimated he would have been 9lbs+ full term so my measurements were completely off x

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

2nd pregnancy after c section

I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but in the future possibly. I just wanted to know how is pregnancy after c section like my fear is having to go through another emergency operation or even putting strain on my incision during pregnancy

Baby Movements

Hello, I’m a FTM currently 18W5D pregnant. I’ve been getting this tugging feeling in my stomach after I eat, it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I don’t know whether that’s the baby moving or round ligaments pain.

I’ve also been getting round ligament pain which is either a sharp stabbing pain or a stretching sensation. These happens whether or not I’ve eaten while the tugging feeling is only after I’ve eaten.

So, could the tugging feeling be the baby or something else.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.
