We have tried talking it out, trying to hold him down to clam him, which seems to work most times and he stops. But my worry is when he will totally stop. Any tips please share any other parents had this.

Mine did this too, it took me a while to realize it was attention seeking behavior. I just started ignoring it, I would turn away and not even look and she stoped almost completely. Maybe it’s the same for your little.
I do try and ignore sometimes it works and he comes out, other times he keeps going on until I reach out to him, i just feel bad and just go down to him.it makes me sad at times and helpless

Mine is the same. Have checked for autism and it’s just attention seeking as others have said. I also think it’s boredom. I either ignore or redirect. For example, slapping the head you can say, “Our hands are not for hitting, but we can clap our hands instead.”

I’m not saying he is autistic… but it sounds like me when I’m having an autistic meltdown… does he have a sensory friendly place to go to when he gets to this point… a safe cozy place to help regulate himself

I'd give him an outlet to hit. A pillow, stuffy, this is normal and he might just need to let that out in general. I'll say 3 is normally when it's emotional lol they get all these new feelings YAY! toddlerhood is real. You could also get him a blow up punching stand, I always suggest that to parents when they ask my advice (Kindergarten Teacher) & their 2nd is spicy lol
Thanks guys for all the tips and making me feel better
