I had a growth scan today at 36 weeks. They said baby is currently weighing in at 7 pounds 9 and estimated birth weight will be way over 9 pounds. I have a phone consult next week to discuss birth options as they said it is likely they will recommend induction just based on size alone. I don't have gestational diabetes or any other issues in pregnancy and this is my first baby. Any advice and experiences from those who have been told they have babies measuring big? I know I can choose to wait for natural labour and there is elective c section on the cards, I've just heard so many horror stories about being induced early I was keen not to go down that route! I have read there is a higher likelihood of emergency c section with artifical induction also.

I had this they told me she would be well over 9 pound so I ended up accepting the induction but they scheduled my induction the Saturday and my due date was the following Tuesday. I was induced at 2pm, waters went at 7pm and had baby girl in my arms at 0:49. I had a really positive experience, felt in control the whole time and had the birth I wanted. The only thing was she ended up being 8lb 3 so not anywhere near as big as they predicted.

With my first I had a growth scan at 35 weeks and baby was estimated at 6lb 2oz. Considering they say baby puts on half a pound each week and I all but went to 42 weeks, my son should have been over 9.5lbs. He was 7lb 14oz so smaller than predicted.

My baby is also measuring big and they advised induction at 39 weeks. We didn't accept it at 39 weeks but im booked for an induction after due date so it doesn't go over 41 weeks when placenta function declines, or that is what our midwife said, but we wanted to give him the chance to come naturally before his due date. No signs he is coming at all and I'm booked for an induction next Wednesday so I'm hoping he'll come before that šš I had a sweep on Wednesday but didn't start anything, having another one booked for tomorrow š¤

Please donāt be induced Iām a ftm I had my baby at the start of march and they said with him he was measuring big I decided to be induced and honestly it was the worst thing Iāve ever done I had the gel and then the drip and nothing worked I kept being sick had a epidural which run out and they ended up not topping it up. Ended up with an emergency c section and honestly if I could go back and just opt to have a c section I would. They also said to me because i was induced I lost a lot of blood with the c section x

My growth slowed down I went from 80th to 60th between 36 and 38 weeks. I wouldnāt worry lovely x Iām being induced the day before my due date but thatās for other concerns around my health. If you donāt want induction or intervention stand your ground x

Honestly iād just wait and let your body do its thing. 9lbs is not overly big, and the scans are so often out itās likely your baby will actually be smaller and then youāve gone through an induction for no reason at all.

With my second baby, she was measuring 7lbs at 36 weeks. I never got told anything about an induction or anything. She came spontaneously at 37+4 and was 7lbs 8oz. Iām due my 3rd in 3 weeks and at 35 weeks he was measuring 5lbs 15 x

Slightly different because I was never told my baby was measuring big from any scans, but it was always a passing comment because my husband is tall. I was induced because I was overdue, and my baby ended up being 9lbs when born. I had the pessary, and read that success rates of it are pretty high. Although, all bodies are different, and I donāt know if it worked for me because I was overdue and āreadyā to give birth, or because I was just lucky; but I had a really positive experience. Good luck! š¤

My boy measured big from 20 weeks onwards, I accepted the induction more because I had other risk factors and was in so much discomfort by the last month. I went in on the Monday with bleeding, they tried to induce me with a pessary but me and baby had too strong a reaction to it so they took it out. Wednesday they broke my waters at 1pm, he was out at 2.19am. We had a really positive experience once the induction was started.

With my first son I Had a growth scan at 37 weeks, was told he was measuring 8lb 6oz. Ended up being induced as they told me he would be over 10lb if I went to term. Overall my induction was positive, I only needed the pessary and my active labour was a total of 10 hours which included an hour & a half pushing - I ended up having a ventouse delivery but it was absolutely fine. In the end though he weighed 7lb 15oz at 39 weeks so not big at all he was just long!
On the other side I was induced with my second son @ 41 weeks and he was born weighing 8lb 13oz so a pretty big boy - total labour was 4.5 hours so was very intense but again a very positive process.
Iāve heard good and bad so overall you just need to do whatās right for you xx

Both my babies were induction due to being predicted big, I was induced both times at 37 weeks, first was predicted 8lb at birth, he was born at 10lb2oz and my second girl was predicted 7lb5 at 37 weeks and she was 9lb12oz, if theyāre predicting big, in my case they were a lot bigger than they thought! Induction saved all 3 of our lives for both births x

My best friends baby was due to be really big and on 99th centile at each growth scan. They estimated high 9lbs for birth and advised c-section due to her hip size. Her baby came out at 8.3 via elective csection. Everyone is very different and its never an exact science ā¤ļø

Follow your gut. I was advised to be induced at 39 weeks due to GD and large baby. I held out until 40+3 because I wanted to give her the chance to come spontaneously. I felt like she was so ready to come at that point, Iād had 3 sweeps in the week before and was already 1.5cm dilated. But I think the anxiety of them pushing the induction was stopping me from relaxing. I went in to be induced on 40+3 and she was born 21 hours after they put the pessary in. They put it in then we went for a walk around the hospital grounds a few times and went to sleep, the contractions started in the night and really ramped up late morning. For me it was a mostly positive experience however I will say I kept checking in with my gut. I was scheduled for it the day before but it didnāt feel right so I cancelled it and waited until the time felt right. At 39 weeks they said baby was 8lb 9oz and she was born at 40+4 weighing 8lb 7.5oz.

Iām going through the same thing at the moment, i had 2 growth scans and both times her growth speed has accelerated so they are saying sheās a big baby. i had a consultant appointment on thursday and they gave me 3 options, induction at 39 weeks, c section at 39 weeks or wait to go into natural labour. There is a lot of scare mongering with induction but i know so many people that have had good experiences

It also made me feel at ease that i now have a idea of a date

I was told I'd have an over 10lb baby, he came out 8lb 14, i was scheduled for an induction for a few reasons but in the end didn't need any hormonal help only had my waters broken manually, if you're already dilated naturally it shouldn't be too bad as your body just kicks in pretty much
