Learn more about our guidelines.I’ve read a few different articles and watch a few videos and this is what we came to- we are introducing the potty as an option. I feel like when parents are stressed the kids pick up on it and makes things way worse.
So we are buying a potty seat and moving it room to room with him. One video said to put it on a puppy pee pad to protect your floors. We are going to put him on it when he wakes up from sleeping and after eating. Those are the most likely times in the beginning he will use it and reinforce the action we want without forcing him to sit on one every 15 min and having tears. But the potty will be in the room during play if chooses.
Diapers and pull-ups are made to keep them dry. So one article said to put on underwear then the diaper. This will help them actually feel wet and start understanding what the sensation is to pee or poop.
So if he uses the potty, great! If he goes in the diaper, no big deal!
I bought it, Sat him on when I got in. He eventually used the bathroom on his own without me even knowing
We did pants outside as it was nice weather, sat on potty every 15 mins , If he starts weeing then you have to keep him on there until he finishes as babies drip wee and don't really finish a wee. Then you can leave it half an hour and work up in incriminates
After 3/4ish days he could go an hour (prob more) but we sat him every hour on the potty and he v rarely had an accident.
We had a sticker reward chart, prizes and made it as fun as possible.
The most important part was that he wanted to wear big boy pants and was v receptive to the process
thank you ladies!! ☺️ i’m going to try these
each time he sat on the potty, i gave encouragement & praises. each time he actually used the potty, he got a sticker. once he completed the entire chart he got 1 chocolate.
first day i had no hope.. i was thinking “maybe he just isnt ready”? even though he was clearly showing us signs (prior) that he was. but by the second day he proved me wrong. he pulled his underwear down to let me know he needed to go. then by the 3rd day he was verbally telling me he needed to go. we still have a few little moments with accidents because he would rather play than tell me he needs a potty break.. but its only been a week so im not too worried. overall it has been a smooth process. just make sure you give yourself a full 3 day weekend maybe a whole week to make sure you can keep an eye out for his cues. give yourself some grace, give him some grace. its his first time and your first time as well. good luck mama! you both got this!! 🫶🏻
I started when I noticed him stay dry more. We got a little potty and little seats for the big potty. We started getting him comfortable having him sit when he woke up after naps and after bed. And then after a few times of actually going and being comfortable the potty we decided to do 3-4 days of like no underwear letting him run around naked. It probably took a week or two for him to like really get it but we potty trained him in February and he just turned two in May. We really liked the book oh s*** potty training
I just let my eldest run around without a pull up on then everytime he was about to go I'd quickly scoop him up and place him on the toilet
If you dont mind having to mop up pee through the day lol but he knows where to go now 😅
