Hi moms!! My daughter will be 6 months on the 9th and she has shown SO much interest in food and watching us eat and drink. She is always smacking her lips and getting excited even when she sees us eat/drink. And moms start purees or at home baby food to start your LO’s on food? I’m so eager since I see she’s interested. We are looking into BLW but I’m also okay with just introducing some foods this way first!
Obviously new to this 🥲

so helpful thank you!!!!

We started just after our baby turned 5 months. She has shown so much interest and can pretty much sit up on her own. I started with purees and now we are slowly introducing table foods. She has shown she will eat just about anything though. 😂

I so badly want to start with some basic purées!! Do you make yours at home??

Mine is almost almost 6 months. I do homemade purée. I play with the textures so they are different each time. She’s had sweet potatoes, avocado, Carrots, banana, sucked on some pork chop, and today we did boiled eggs. Mine doesn’t have as much interest doing it herself but goes crazy lunging towards a spoon of avocado.

We started a little after 4 months as our pediatrician gave us the ok. We have started with purees.....sweet potatoes which she loves, bananas she is not too fond of yet, apple sauce she likes and we just did broccoli Sunday which she is getting used to. I made all of it...if you decide to make it yourself it helps to add some seasoning to it. She has also sucked on pork chop and French fries and enjoyed it a lot! She's been very interested in food always opening her mouth whenever she sees food going from bowl to our mouths lol 🤣🤣

Our doc gave us to go to start our girl at 5.5 months on smooth purées so we started smooth purées last night, she loved it! She was also showing interest in our food and is doing pretty good sitting wise. We did a tiny bit of bananas and she just kept grabbing the spoon from us and putting it in her mouth! She loved it. In the next few days we will be doing peas or sweet potatoes. Enjoy every moment when you start! 🥹

We started purées at 5 months. She is a very eager beaver. Do what you think is best mama.

I plan on doing a mix of both purées and BLW when I can! I started out this week doing some carrot and broccoli. I steamed the carrot and blended it up with breastmilk. She LOVED! Last night I steamed some broccoli and I left it in really big florets so I could try giving her a whole floret. She was not as big of a fan lol. She loved squishing it though. At home purees are super easy to do if you’re going that route! You can steam or bake for a different type of flavor and then blend it with some formula or breastmilk. Some of my personal favorite combinations are carrot with, chicken with apple, and pretty much anything with sweet potato. I’m in some BLW facebook groups too which is getting me excited for more meals

Solid starts is fantastic. The guidance from their team of medical professionals is that purées aren’t really best recommendation anymore. Baby led weaning teaches baby interest in food and a large range of skills when they transition to solids as their main source of nutrition in a couple of months. I highly recommend their book and app. Save yourself the money and skip store bought purées

I started with purées and creamy baby oatmeal. My baby really doesn’t like purées though lol so I started giving him large pieces of very soft food like ripe avocado, bananas and over cooked veggies like carrots. He likes being independent so I just give him a large stick like piece and let him have at it!
