Copper Coil

You’ll hear some horror stories and some who love it.. I’ve had it a few times with zero problems and defo the best method of contraception for me as I also wanted non-hormonal and something not to think about. It’s uncomfortable going in and having it taken out, but apart from that it’s been fantastic for me. You won’t know until you try! If you don’t get on with it, you can always have it taken out.

Omg! I had it and it ruined my womb.. took years for my body to recover from it and I only had it in for 3 months before I decided to remove it. The real issues started when I had it removed.. turns out it gaved me womb trauma. Sex was no longer fun, it hurt & endless Thrush. When it came to trying for a baby, I was told my microbiome count was weak & cabity had increased and I’m 100% sure this was all from the copper coil. 😩 anyways, once doctors diagnosed me properly, things went back to normal but it took years to get a diagnose. If you get the coil & your body isn’t reacting properly, get rid of it. Don’t wait 3 months in hope that the symptoms will get better. 🙄 ‘says the nurse who told me to wait’

It works for some people and for some it doesn’t. Keep in mind they don’t offer anaesthesia to insert it and it hurts. It has benefits as it can help with your periods if they’re heavy or painful and can eventually make them stop, it protects you from pregnancy. It can cause irregular bleeding for the first 6 months which is annoying. I know 2 people who got pregnant with it cause it slipped off and they didn’t know so I personally refused to get it but I also know people who had it for years with 0 issues. You’d have to try to see if it works for you, you can always have it removed if you’re not happy!

I've had one put in a few months ago, I had a smear at the same time and for me the pain was very minimal. More uncomfortable and I felt embarrassed to have my lady parts showing to 3 other women! I didn't want a hormonal contraception and at the moment it's going really well. Spotting more but thats to be expected! X

I had one for 11 years. It was awkward and painful to get in, but a breeze to get out.
However after the first year I had real issues with long heavy painful periods (which I was prone to anyway, and I knew going in that the copper coil could exacerbate all those things). So I went back to the doctors and they suggested the implant for me, and as one was hormonal and the other wasn’t, I tried the implant before removing the coil.

The combo worked well for me, and I just happily left it in until the 10 year mark, but then it was Covid so it was more like 11 years before I could get it out.

It’s worth a try as long as you know the potential side effects, just like any form of contraception! And it will be sore the for the first few days or so, but I had mine in pre childbirth, no idea what it would be like post childbirth.
