I feel like I’ve asked this question so much but my baby was waking up at 5:30 every morning.
For the past 2 mornings he’s waking up at 4:30 and refusing to go back to sleep.
The 5:30 were hard but this is getting ridiculous!
My husband works in London so it’s me that has to do the early mornings everyday and by 4/5pm I’m absolutely shattered as he’s crawling and on the move so through the day I don’t get a second
Can anyone help as im getting so fed up with this now.
He has black out blinds, white noise, his day time sleep is capped at 2.5/3 hours, 2 naps a day, bedtime routine is bath, bottle and bed for around 7/7:30.
He’s almost 10 months old, I’ve tried earlier bedtimes, later bedtimes and none of it works.
Please someone help me! 😂🫠

He may be ready for one nap! 10 months is around the time we transitioned to one nap during the day (aiming for 2.5/3 hours tops) and she started sleeping so much better at night and not waking up at ungodly hours (for the most part).

how did you transition as his morning wake windows it’s like he struggles to get even 3 hours before he’s like I need a nap

All babies are different but my 10 monther hates naps and will only have 1 long nap a day up to 2 ish hours or sometime ls 2 40ish minute ones a day (once she wakes from a nap there's no getting her back down) but at this point it's mostly one nap a day and a solid 12 hour sleep with a feed at around 8 hours in.
She might not be ready for one nap but you could always try a couple of days and see if it helps / how she copes. Or a bigger gap between last nap and bedtime?
Also how long before bedtime do you give her dinner? I've found my daughter sleeps longest when she has dinner 30m-1hr before bed and then bottle before being put down so that her tummy is nice and full

Surely it’s the bed time - some babies aren’t built for the 7 pm bedtime! Some babies do only 10 hours overnight, so if you’re putting them to bed at 7, that’d have them on time to wake at 5 give or take. The routine might need a bit of adjustment to push that bed time a couple hours later

so much trial and error but after a few days we got the hang of it! I just started stretching her out in increments of about 15-30 minutes depending on the day. We would have a snack, or go outside, and on days I was desperate we would watch like 2 episodes of Bluey (saved for DIRE straits). It’s hard at first but eventually it evens out.
One thing I just thought of is sometimes if the room temp is too cold then they wake up during those hours!

that’s good that she’s doing 12 hours before he’s
His usual average at night is 10.5 hours
He has his dinner about 5/5:30 then a bottle at 7pm before bed as I think the same about a full tummy
I’ve tried to do it so he has at least 4 hours before bedtime

I’ve tried this
I’ve done bedtime at 8 in the hopes that he would just do his 10.5 average and he’ll still wake up at 5:30 but then he’s grumpy as he’s had less sleep
Tried 7pm bedtime so he’s not over tired the same thing happens
I’ve tried leaving him in his cot and not getting him out
Treating it like a night waking but I’m running out of things to try

I might try this for a few days
I just feel like he has like 2.5/3 hours of sleep a day I don’t know how he’d handle less but suppose trial and error like you say

it’s so hard! I would definitely take the night wakes over a 4:30 wake up call any day. And with one nap it’s not necessarily less sleep, just think of it as one less cycle for him to go through before bedtime. Because he does still need that 2-3 hours a day, but it being broken up a little less might help him regulate a bit more before bedtime!

We went through this at a similar age and the main thing that made a difference was not starting the day until a time you decide is acceptable. So staying in their room, lights off, quiet or no talking and just try and get them back to sleep and back to bed.
We paired this with keeping a full wake window from the time you’re happy for the day to start. If that’s 6am and first wake window is 3 hours, first nap isn’t until 9am.
It was rough doing those things, but we started to see a fairly consistent wake of 6am or later within a week or two and we’d had at least a month of 4.30am wake ups.

it really is! He’s done well as in he doesn’t wake up alor through the night and he dropped the feeds himself it’s just the early rising
It’s been going on for months so I’m so tired
We’ve been on holiday recently and he slept through every night till 6/6:30 some mornings even later so I know he can do it 😂😭

that’s how my daughter was too!! On the occasions she would actually sleep through we would jokingly tell her, “see isn’t this so nice to get so much sleep?”🥲
It gets better I promise!!!

@Sophie i can't day for sure ittl make a difference but it could be worth a try with pushing dinner back a little bit. I'm not sure where I read about doing dinner in the hour before bed helping but I definitely see a difference if my daughter eats 2-2 5hrs before bed vs 0.5-1hr before.

I second about the nap. My baby was the same age when we had to drop the second one. Generally we stretch the first nap for 4-5 hours and then it falls pretty central to her day by the time she's up

Just curious what the wake windows are? Could be that they don’t have enough sleep pressure to last all night. Or maybe getting too much day time sleep.
We are 11m Monday and we were struggling with early morning wake ups too for awhile. We had to adjust our day schedule a bit. And now he’ll sleep until 7:30, if I let him.
Sometimes it just takes like a 15 minute adjustment somewhere to align everything for them. It’s wild.

Maybe he’s ready to drop a nap my baby was only on one nap a day at that age and slept 8-8 with a 90 minute nap from 12ish x

hahaha just keep trying to persuade them 😂😂 I hope so
Thank you for the advice x

to be honest I try and keep it close to bedtime but then sometimes he’ll refuse his milk so I’m sort of like I dunno what to do at that point
I’ll try a few days and see how he gets on

is 10 months the right age for 1 nap? I feel like he couldn’t cope with just one but I suppose if we transition slowly

his first wake window I’m lucky if he can do 2.5 hours he struggles with the first one and then the second is around 3 hours and then I try and do at least 3.5/4 on his last one
Omg that sounds like heaven 😂 even if it was 6:30 I’d be happy it’s the 4:30/5:30 window that I’m struggling with
Plus his dad is out of the house from morning till evening so it’s purely me alone all day and I’m just shattered

8-8 is an actual dream to me haha x

2.5/3/3.5-4 is actually a great schedule for 10m. Hmmm. And naps are like 1.5 each? Or like 1.5 and then 1 hour?
Do you find a difference on the days they sleep 2.5 hours vs 3 in the day?
How are solids going?
Sounds like you’re doing everything right mama.
I find it’s all about trial and error with my guy.
- you could try capping naps to 2-2.5 hour total, see if that helps
- try extending that first wake window to build pressure, aim for 2.75/3/3.5-4 see if that little extra awake helps
- you can play with length of naps, for example: morning cap at 30 minutes and afternoon longer
- or you can try to drop to 1 nap as mentioned, I’ve thought about this but those days usually look like 4/6 or 4.5/5.5 and I don’t think my little one can do those long stretches

technically no, but, it worked for us

I'd drop to 1 nap a day & see if he's ready for breakfast lunch & dinner & look into how much milk he needs at his age to balance & get a better night sleep.. however that isn't totally crazy. Just a suggestion, It might help it might not to be fair. Given he sleeps 7:30pm-4:30am that's incredible lol

Maybe too much daytime sleep. But my baby has lower sleep needs. She would nap only 1-1:30 hrs. Rn she naps only 30 mins or an hour

yeah sometimes he’ll do 1.5 hours in the morning and then about an 1 hour in the afternoon or maybe slightly over
I won’t let him have any longer than 3 hours day time sleep
No difference to be honest
Yeah he’s amazing with his food will give anything a try in fairness to him
He has his tea every night and then a bottle before bed
Yeah I think I’m going to have to try a couple of things and see what happens
I’m the same I’m reluctant to drop a nap as I just don’t think he’ll handle it yet

every baby is different I suppose so if it’s working happy days

yeah I think we’ll have to have a little play around with things and see if it makes a difference
I know in fairness to him he’s doing well with it it’s just the early rising after a few weeks it does start to creep up on you

I have seen about even if they wake up leave them in their cot till like a certain time so they know that’s the time to wake up

yeah I might start and cap his naps so he’s maybe doing 1 hour and 1.5 then slowly start to decrease it and see what happens
