I come from a feisty family, and there has been 4 occasions where my brother and sister has shouted/insulted me and my husband has stood back and not defended me. He says it is between family so he doesn't want to get involved and 'argue' with my sisters as it should be sorted out within ourselves. I feel he should defend his family more, and I feel people know he wouldn't do anything so I and my kids are an easy target to insult.

If they're that bad honestly wouldn't it be better if you just stayed away from them? I understand him not wanting to get in arguments with his in-laws particularly as you describe it as the family dynamic, maybe he just thinks getting involved is going to make it worse. If I was him I'd just suggest we leave the situation rather than bickering with in-laws š¤·š¼āāļø

It totally depends on the level of argument to me, if me and my brothers are just having a normal sibling argument about something stupid I would be so pissed off if my husband got involved, 1, im not a child and can defend myself and 2, that's my siblings and we do this for fun sometimes.
However, if it gets personal or goes into screaming and shouting territory by husband, would flatten my brothers so fast.
It is not normal siblings arguing, if it was it wouldn't bother me. It is personal and they feel I should discipline and be harsher on my toddlers. I am not actively gental parenting my kids but I refuse to raise them in fear like they suggest.

If itās my family I generally donāt expect him to intervene. Just be supportive/empathetic. If itās his family, I expect him to intervene and stand up for me.

I can see it being more acceptable with sibling relationships unless they said something super outta pocket. He might feel that you guys can argue in a way and it not affect you relationship as siblings but if he says something a certain way they might hold on to it or view him differently after yall make up or go back to getting along.

Iām similar to Bianca. I only place that expectation that he step in if itās his family but with my family I handle it. For more than one reason and one of them is simply so they canāt throw up something he said or done in an argument because he was never a part of it. Now, if it was a serious boundary being crossed with our kids and I wasnāt present I would expect him to step up and enforce that boundary.

Ooo thats a tricky one. Usually, I let my hubby defend himself to his family, and I to mine, unless kids are involved then we both ride out at dawn. But I wont argue with his family because if later on they make ammends with hubby, its still sour with me. So Iāll stay neutral unless I hear my name brought up.

I would never get my husbandās family drama and would never expect him to get into mine. Iād actually get angry if he confronted MY siblings.

My husband doesnāt get involved in arguments in my family because he knows I can handle that myself. But when his family has tried to come for me in the past he will intervene. So I think heās doing the right thing by staying out of it to a certain extent. if your brother or another male got a lil too close physically or you felt threatened by them your husband should step in. Your sister or another woman, you should be able to handle.

Yes. My husband will tell you off no matter who you are.

Mine would because thatās his personality. He truly stands up for people all the time especially women. So he for sure donāt play about me
I have asked him to stand up for me but he says he will never when it involves family. I do get that if he was to say something they will hold it to him forever. I do get everyone's point. Thanks you x
