I watched you lose yourself in this relationship and somewhere along the way, I lost myself too. We were two people trying to love each other, but we ended up trapped. Stuck in a maze of miscommunication, resentment, and broken promises. We kept going in circles, hoping love would be enough to lead us out. It wasn’t.
Now, during this time we’re having to find ourselves again but we’re doing it separately. And that still hits me like a punch in the chest. I never thought it would come to this. I never imagined we’d have to walk away just to feel whole again.
What breaks me… and honestly, what makes me angry, is that it took me leaving for real this time with the kids for you to suddenly want to change. Where was that version of you when we needed it most? When I begged for partnership, when I cried alone in the bathroom, when the kids looked to you and saw absence instead of support?
You didn’t fight for us when we were falling apart. You only started fighting once we were already gone.
That hurts in a way I can’t explain. Because part of me hoped you would wake up, step up, grow up before it was too late. But now the damage is done. And no amount of “I’ll do better” can undo years of being unheard, unseen, and unvalued.
Maybe we both got lost in this relationship. But I’m done waiting for you to find your way. I’m choosing to find mine now and to make sure the kids grow up in a home where love isn’t just talked about, it’s shown.
