Yes!! I breastfed with in first few hours.

Avatar

Yes you absolutely can! I was concerned about this too but it’s safe to breastfeed, I’ve been breastfeeding for almost 8 months now ☺️xx

Avatar

Same! I had an emergency C-section and I was breastfeeding as soon as we were moved to the recovery room ☺️

Avatar

Yes you can breastfeed they won’t give you any kind of crazy pain medication that would affect baby

Avatar

Yes, I’ve had two caesareans and breastfed both babies perfectly fine. Started straight afterwards in the golden hour doing skin to skin.

They gave me dihydrocodeine which is totally safe for breastfeeding and my babies were fine.

Avatar

Yep! Breastfed in the recovery room and the following 8 months! Also I was only given paracetamol 😑

Avatar

Of course you can.
I breastfed immediately after and we breastfed for 22 months.

Avatar

Yes!! Advil and Tylenol was enough to manage my pain! My doc had put some pain meds in epidural so I didn’t need many orally after the surgery! It lasted me for the first 24 hours! Then ur just sore like a severe ab day! Just make sure u move slow!! ❤️‍🔥

Avatar

They had me feeding him ASAP it was comfortable (ish) to do so. And I was still on painkillers and 800 ibuprofen

Avatar

Yes, I did with both my babies. It’s not different to a vag birth

Avatar

i was breastfeeding whilst they sewed me up on the table from birthing him. baby will be fine x

Avatar

I breastfed right away and I was on blood pressure medication and painkillers after my caesarean for 2 weeks

Avatar

If they know your breastfeeding they will give you medicine that’s safe for it! As soon as I got out of my c-section she latched onto me when I was in my room

Avatar

Absolutely. To be honest i didn’t take pain meds when i left the hospital. I felt no pain the entire time.

I breastfed that day with colostrum but it took a few days for my milk to come in.

I also had an infection that needs three rounds of antibiotics. One of which I needed to time with nursing - couldn’t nurse 2 hours after taking it. But that’s as hard as it got in terms of meds and nursing.

Avatar

I never took the meds but you can still breastfeed

Avatar

Two c sections, I was nursing both my babies within the first hour of being out of surgery, oldest was ebf until my supply died out 4mo pp (I blame having to go back to work and not being able to take my pump breaks when I needed to). With this baby I’m 8mo pp and still going strong! The medications that they use to control your pain post c section won’t affect baby

Avatar

Absolutely

Avatar

I pumped after my c section and in the hospital I only got Tylenol and ibuprofen, but then they sent me home with oxy

Avatar

You might not need them - I only took paracetamol and ibuprofen after C-section

Avatar

Yes I breastfed and was on lots of opioids for 2 weeks

Avatar

Yes you absolutely can. They shouldn't be giving you pain killers that aren't safe to take whilst breastfeeding. I was given paracetamol, ibuprofen and dihydrocodeine (codeine is not safe to take whilst breastfeeding but dihydrocodeine is a safer option). If you are concerned there's some info here to read in advance so you know what is safe to take: https://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/factsheet/analgesics/

Avatar

Yes it won’t affect baby, you’ll need the pain killers cos the pain is excruciating 😪

Avatar

You absolutely can breastfeed after c section. You also may not even need many pain killers, I have a pretty average pain tolerance and I never took anything more than Tylenol/ibuprofen- I honestly didn't even feel like I really needed even those very often, but took them around the clock for a few days to keep on top of the pain rather than letting it sneak up on me.

Avatar

Yep. We started breastfeeding pretty soon after my emergency c section and still going 2 years later!

Avatar

If you're worried about the meds you would potentially have this with a vaginal birth anyway, as pain relief can be given intravenously, epidurals etc during labour.

Avatar

Yes I just had paracetamol and ibuprofen though

Avatar

I only got Tylenol in the hospital and volteran at home. Everything was safe to take.

Avatar

Yep I was given a mix of Tylenol, ibuprofen, and oxy had no issues and my daughter was perfectly fine 😀

Avatar

Defiantly I have now been breastfeeding for 11 months have had infections which meant antibiotics had to be taken even had a tooth done with a numb pain killer and they just always prescribe things that are breastfeeding safe

Avatar

I did! I was on paracetamol and ibuprofen thats it x

Avatar

Yes you can. Your milk might be bit slower coming in due to c section/meds. Look up positions for nursing after C-section, reclining position is good.

Avatar

I just didn’t take the painkillers

Avatar

I didn’t take the meds and produced 6oz by day 2

Avatar

I was bother about this myself and unfortunately ended up in a&e, a doc told me to look on a website

Uh definitely! I’m 3 weeks pp and I exclusively breastfeed along with partially pump too. My milk came in about 3 days pp. just make sure you ask for a lactation consultant to help you if you’re new to it bc it is hard and scary at first without guidance or reassurance. I was prescribed oxycodone 5mg and didn’t like how it made me feel so I only took half along with prescribed 800mg ibuprofen. I called a nurse about it when I was around 1-2 weeks pp bc I was afraid it would pass onto my baby thru my milk but she said it shouldn’t do anything but make them a little sleepy and if I feel like there is any problems then I could always call bck or come into the l&d to get him checked out but honestly it doesn’t effect baby how we think it does. I stopped taking the oxy at 2 weeks and stuck with ibuprofen which has worked! and then when I do go out to the store or appointment or something I will take half again just bc I am doing more excessive moving/activity that could cause pain. ❤️

Avatar

Also breastfeeding shrinks ur uterus way faster! I was back down by day 3 and now my stomach is even more back down and sorta flat! So those first couple of days you will have contractions from breastfeeding but it’s honestly not that bad!

Avatar

I did football method the first week and then got a little more comfortable and now I just lay him sideways on my chest and feed him that way. When you have to sneeze, cough, or laugh hold a pillow or ur hand firmly on your incision/ stomach to prevent pain, I also used a belly binder day and night the first 4 days which helped with swelling and my stomach to go down more.

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

Hospital bag (UK)

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.

Newborn stage

Is anyone tired of doing the same thing everyday and being on a 2-3 hour schedule? It’s the same everyday and I feel like I’m losing my mind. It’s making me depressed even if I get out once a day. When does it get better? I feel like I’m just waiting for the next stage where it’s not just sitting around all day.
