Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice or experiences.
I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant, and at my anatomy scan everything looked normal except that the nuchal fold measured 7 mm. The doctor said this is considered “thickened” and recommended a referral to Prenatal Diagnostic Services.
All my NIPT and first trimester screenings came back negative, and the anatomy scan didn’t show any other concerns — the heart chambers, organs, and growth all looked fine. Still, I’ve been told that a thicker nuchal fold can sometimes be a soft marker for conditions like Down syndrome or heart issues.
I’m feeling a bit anxious while I wait for the specialist appointment. Has anyone else had a baby with thickened nuchal fold but normal screenings? I would really appreciate hearing your experiences .

hey this happened to me! I decided to go private and pay for the NIPT testing and they couldn’t get the measurements the NHS was getting at their scan plus all results came back low risk - which put me at a little ease but obviously the worry was still there! I was under a consultant throughout the rest of my pregnancy and over time the nuchal fold decreased to 6.1mm (my reading was over 7mm ) it was the only factor that came into play with the possibility of DS as normally you’d have more than this 1 factor if your baby may have DS so I was told? and it may have been a possible infection the baby got or I may have passed to him hence why it was so high at the time ? … I then went on to have a happy healthy baby boy! Wishing you all the very best x

Yes mine was 4mm but found our at the 12 wk scan. I was 1/10 for abnormalities and 1 in 35 for DS.
Decided on the amniocentesis at fetal medicine and had all the scans/bloods etc.
Everything came back clear and i am here breastfeeding my almost 5 month old. Who is the most healthiest, happiest boy.
All the tests were very stressful and i had to have intenses counselling from PTSD and all the stress it caused.
