I’m 38+5 weeks and not feeling 100%, my toddlers got a high temperature and gets really bad when poorly. She won’t let me leave her site when she’s like this, won’t eat or drink, the usual. My patience is already running low being hormonal with other stress added. Is it unreasonable to ask my husband to come home to help? He hasn’t responded yet but I’m wondering if I’m supposed to manage or expect him to be home. I’m not used to asking for help since I find a way deal with it

He might be more concerned that he’s having to take paternity leave off in a few weeks and doesn’t want to rock the boat or there might be an emergency where he might actually need it. Depends what his workplace is like. Mine have just sent an email that if we take more than one day off sick in a month we have to come in an talk to them

Are you on maternity leave already then? If so I probably wouldn't get my husband to come home unless it's an emergency but I'd get him to pick up a takeaway on the way home and give me the evening to chill once he got back.
When our kids are sick we both take turns caring for them but while I was on maternity leave I did more. Unless I was sick too!

I agree with . I do understand it’s really hard for you, honestly I empathise with you but I can imagine it’s hard for him to take that time out of work and would be saving it for an emergency and with you being heavily pregnant, you could go into labour anytime and he actually has to take time out. I think for men there’s still a culture of it not being acceptable to take time off for sick children especially if he says you’re at home. Are there any family or friends that can help you?

If you are struggling. Yes! ask him to come home and help. Hope you are ok 💕💕
So I’m on maternity leave and he’s self employed and can leave whenever without it being frowned upon. I’ve never asked him to come home early, except one time when I had to go into hospital. He usually leaves earlier if his family needs him to. I’ve been attending appointments etc because I understand it’s not always easy to drop everything to come with me. He’s been working without compromising (for us anyway). I’ve been poorly for the past few days and lost all of my mucus plug last night. I think I would’ve been ok but I’m really worried if I push myself, I’m going to go into labour whilst my toddler is poorly 😣 she needs me when she’s unwell, I’ll be complete torn too. I’ve called my mum who can’t come to help since my niece who’s immune systems slightly compromised is with her. But said she will do her best to send a home cooked meal over. I think I thought it was acceptable since I never ask anyone for help except my parents when I desperately need it.

Depends on the workplace and nature of work. I work hospitality and my partner is the stay at home dad. I'm a manager so wouldn't be able to leave without calling another manager in to cover on their day off. As a waitress I wouldn't leave my team a member short unless I knew they'd cope - I worked through morning sickness vomiting over 6 times a day and have worked through all kinds of illnesses.
However, family must always come first so if he was unable to manage I would find a way to come home.
Do you have any other family or friends you could call instead?

I just wrap them up and hang out on the couch with sick babies i drink ginger tea to keep myself good and not sick and I grind ginger into apple sauce for the sick kid we hang out eat chicken soup and just chill i don't want my husband there because he's a worry wart who gets emotional when the kids are sick I want him to catch extra hours and bring home take out cuz I'm taking care of sick kids so im not cooking much lol

That’s really rough. Can you take a “sick day” and just relax watching movies with your kiddo? Housework can wait until your husband can get home and maybe he can just bring you guys food home. Also, since he has his own business, can he work from home at all? That way he can be there to help but can also work before the new baby comes

I’d never ask my husband to come home unless it was an actual emergency. But I would be handing the kids over and going to bed the second he’s home.

You're very pregnant, tired, and have a sick toddler. It's ok to ask him to come home and help you.

It's totally acceptable if you need help and you have no one else, only YOU know how you're feeling, so don't let other people's opinions make you feel bad, I just gave my opinion on what I'd do but if you're struggling call him

As others mentioned, just make it a movie day...couch or end, whatever is more comfy and hang out. I would let him work but tell him that's yours plan so he can expect to do some gousework. He can then manage if he wants to leave early to do some housework or just do it when he gets home.

It sounds like you are in early stages of labor and with everything else going on, I hope you just asked him to come home 💓
Thanks for the input everyone! I did end up messaging my husband to say I’ll manage but he came home early anyway. He knows I never ask for help and try to act superhuman even on a really bad day, so when I did he knew I was struggling. I envy those of you who suggested a movie day, my toddler doesn’t like movies at all so that wasn’t a possibility. Poor thing was throwing up everywhere and wanted one of us to constantly cuddle and walk around with. I’m glad he came home early, I can’t deal with the thought of having to leave my little tornado feeling like this if it resulted going into active labour.
I’m not going to lie, I felt a little judged for asking for help by some of the comments but honestly. Where was acting like I can do it all at almost 39 weeks pregnant going to get me accept the possibility of giving birth without my husband by my side? Some of you are really brave if you can walk about all day with a almost 3 year old without a break, in the early stages of labour 😓
