I’m on mat leave until next September but I’m seriously considering putting my 6 month old in daycare at least part time. My ppd is so terrible and I’m not getting the help I need because what little energy I have goes to her and even then she just fusses. I feel like I’m depriving her of socialization and activity because I don’t have the energy 80% of the time.
If she goes to daycare, will I lose the EI payments? I’m not ready to go back to work yet.
Thanks

No you don’t lose EI payments when baby goes to daycare. You lose EI payments when you go back to work, or when you’ve been paid all your available EI

No, you don’t except when you go back to work.

Also, have you tried attending any EarlyON programs in regards to baby socializing?

6 months is a perfect time too start daycare

Where are you located if you dont mind me asking .. where I am (Toronto Canada ) you can get subsidy while on Matt leave so daycare can be covered

Whether you send child to daycare during Mat leave or not doesn't determine your eligibility at all during the official Mat leave.

You won’t loose EI, I started daycare for my baby at 9 months and went back to work at 12 months mark. It was the best decision and yes there was a ton of guilt but guilt settled down in 3 weeks. Baby is happy I’m happy because I had more time for me and more love and energy for baby after daycare. I did part time for 2 Months and a month before going back to work I started sending the baby full time. You can start just at 2-3 hours a day and baby will get used to new surroundings.

There were lot of up and downs along the way, such as 1st cough and colds, diarrhea, refusing milk/formula or solids. But time is the answer for everything and things will get easier. Hang in there
