Has anyone started BLW with their little one? My girl is 7.5 months old and has one tooth coming in. So far, she has tried a lot of purees, but I see all these 6 month olds having full meals (toast sticks, eggs, sliced avocado)
I want to start, but I am so nervous about her choking. Any advice? Do I need to wait till she has more than 1 tooth?

my son is 7 months and just started eating eggs and toast and he does pretty well with it just when you do eggs just make sure like you really scramble them and then toast just give it in like little pieces is what I do with my son cause I am afraid that he’s gonna choke on it as well as for avocado I’m not too sure my husband is extremely allergic and I’m too nervous to give it to our son, but I would assume it’s the same way and he only has one tooth in one coming in

Download the solid starts app! There is a ton of info on their free version and it tells you how to prepare food and what sizes it needs to be to avoid choking! They don’t need teeth to start finger foods!

We’ve been doing BLW since he was 6 months old, still do and he has no teeth. Anything I want to feed him, I Google BLW [food item] and my usual source is solid starts for a visual for how to serve it. We do one food item at a time.
Biggest advise I have is know the difference between choking and gagging. Intervene for choking and apply back blows. We also have a life vac on hand for reassurance. He hasn’t choked. We were worried the first time serving solids but he didn’t actually choke.
Choking is silent and gagging is loud. Don’t intervene for gagging but intervene for choking.

We’re doing a mix of purées and BLW! The solid starts app is great and the Facebook page baby led weaning for beginners and beyond (BLWBB) is super helpful

Teeth are irrelevant when it comes to solids! We’re using Solid Starts as we did with our oldest 3 years ago. The food database itself is free although there are other paid features of the app.
I find it so much easier than having to purée things, personally. And as long as the food is prepared appropriately for their age, choking risk is not any greater than it is with purées.

Teeth do not matter. Starting earlier is actually better because their reflex to not choke is better than at an older age. I find it easier to do BLW because then I can just give them foods that we are eating and preparing but just make sure it’s prepared in a safe way for the baby. Solid starts app is the best because either shows you how to prepare food for different ages.

We started BLW two weeks ago! I started allergens this week. I have given bay eggs (make as omelette and cut into strips 3 in long 1 in wide), toast w avocado cut the same as the eggs, and yogurt. We started with purées on pre loaded spoons. Just know that purées also count as BLW if baby is feeding themselves! 101 before one has some free sheets you can download and print for ideas. I paid for the app and love it

I started baby led weaning at 4 months when he could sit up and showed interest. He just gets some of what we eat. I chop it up or cook it more tender, but I dont make 2 different meals. im not interested in all that extra work. we did allergens early, and he gets all of them at least once a week now that he has cleared them. He had a reaction to cashew butter (hives, and we are getting to an allergist soon), but he's been doing so good with it. It is so scary when they gag at new textures and learn the boundaries of their mouths... but you got this, and it will be such a fun journey even despite the fear. Unless you hate mess... It's a messy adventure 😭😭🤣🤣
Definitely talk to the pediatrician about your concerns and make a plan for what specifically scares you. If it's allergies, have a medicine plan. if it's choking, learn about and practice baby chocking procedures. She should be fine to start as long as she can sit with her head up by herself and is showing interest in you eating 🥰 you got this!

Get one of those choke vacs for peace of mind but they have instincts to spit stuff out/ gag and throw up. She can do it and you can too !
