I am due for my second baby in January and getting everything I can ready now. I read online that it's best to buy a new mattress for every baby you have, is that true? I've still got my 1st baby bedside cot which I am going to be using again as she was only in there for 6 months but I was planning on using her cot for the next baby when they are ready to go into their own room as my 1st now has her own big bed. Would I really need to buy a brand new mattress for the cot? She had used it for 3 years and it was only from IKEA so it wasn't too expensive. I understand buying new if it was secondhand from someone else or marketplace but would you need a new one even though you knew how it was kept etc?

They said pre used mattress increase the chance of cot death, I’m not sure if the science behind it but I’ll get my second a new one x

I have also kept my daughters next to me which I’ll be re-using but I’ll be purchasing a new mattress for that, once baby is older I’ll get them a brand new cot x

I reused our next to me mattress as I moved my first into her room at 4 months. They have their own cots with their own mattresses. In the case of the big bed, if they used it for 3 years I would definitely get a new mattress for them

Absolutely fine! I did the same. Its only when you buy SH from someone else that buying new is best, but even then its at your own descretion. Now if you had say 3/4 kids, then its had ALOT of use and i would buy new then too.
