Could anyone please give me some advice on how to transition to one nap a day and how do I know when the right time to do this is?

Signs that made us switch… we were having to wake him up from the first nap to allow time for the 2nd nap. He would fight the 2nd nap like crazy, sometimes refusing to sleep. Wed then have to wake him from the 2nd nap so it wasn’t far too late for bedtime. He was then fighting bedtime and staying up to 11pm nearly every night. He now wakes up between 8am and 8.30am every day. Goes for his nap 12..30-2.30 and is in bed for 8.30pm with no wakes during the night. No fighting his nap or bedtime now as he’s actually tired x

We switched because we had a lotttttt of night wakes and he would be awake for a couple of hours 1-3ish every night. He wasn't tired enough to sleep basically. He was able to do a long wake time before bed but struggled in the morning so we started by making the morning nap literally 10/15 mins tops to get through to the 12.30 bigger nap. Now our schedule is roughly wake at 6.30, nap at 12/12.30 for around 1.5 hours, asleep between 7.30 and 8pm. The tricky bit is to make sure you aren't aiming for more total sleep in 24 hours than you had on 2 naps!

My little boy was poorly so he was back to having around 4 naps a day, he'd start to resist his morning nap before this but when he was ill he needed lots of sleep. As he started to feel better he would refuse his morning nap so we tried putting him down around 12 and it worked. He'd started to have more disturbed nights and was waking up earlier as well before we got onto one nap

We were basically like Amy with more night wakes and awake for a while. We had to start with a 12 nap as he was really tired. He would have half his lunch before and half after as sometimes falling asleep at the table. He would normally go to bed at 8 but had to bring it forward to 7 for a bit. We’ve been on it a couple of weeks and generally he survives until 12.30. If in the car in the morning, he might still have a mini nap but doesn’t seem to affect his other nap. He manages fine until bedtime at 8 now.

I wasn’t having night wakes but after her afternoon nap with the wake window it left, it would take over an hour to put her to bed (which now I know she just wasn’t ready) and her 1st nap was becoming longer than usual.
On an average day, she wakes naturally around 8:00 - 8:30 and I’ll stretch her first nap to around 1pm she then sleeps for around 2/2.5 hours which leaves another 5 hour window before bed around 8:30pm which she’s well and truly ready by then and it’s easy to put her to bed x

Just to add, you might find yourself inbetween one and two naps for a while whilst they adjust. Our daughter has been on one nap for about 6 weeks but still has two naps some days if she’s really tired x
