Hi everyone. Can you sleep train a four week old baby? Should I be letting her 'cry it out'? She will not sleep on her own and cries if she is not held while sleeping.
Any advice?

Nope.
It is very normal for a 4 week old to cry when not being held.
There are other things to try, swaddle, white noise etc.
They should not be left to cry it out.

You’re gonna be mid trenches at about 4 weeks. It’s normal for newborns to cry - you cannot sleep train babies who get hungry every 2-4 hours! She’s hardwired to be near you.
Out of the newborn phase I promise it will start getting easier. Most specialists recommend you start sleep training at around 5-6 months

No sorry hun, babies don’t understand between night and day until 3/4 months so you’ll have to ride it out.
I had a colicky baby who cried all night due to gas etc however I sleep trained at six months and she’s been an excellent sleeper since.
I know it’s tough now but honestly the time will pass, I would just watch Netflix and hold baby all night!
All the best xx

Absolutely not, pick up your baby and cuddle them.
I completely disagree with cry it out at any age but if you were to do it your baby needs to be at least 6 months old.
Most babies do not want to be put down so give your baby some love and comfort 😊 I always wonder why people have babies if they choose to cry it out, if you don’t want to respond to your babies cry, don’t have a baby no matter how hard it gets. Imagine if you woke up crying needing a cuddle and everyone ignored you, it’s a horrible thought x

Absolutely not. As a sleep consultant—cry it out should never be done until AT LEAST 4 months old and shouldn’t be done without the ok from your pediatrician. Before 4 months, babies need and rely on caregivers to regulate their nervous systems.
If you’re struggling, I’d love to hop on a call with you and chat about some ways you can lay healthy independent sleep foundations right now but definitely not crying out or sleep training in any way. Let me know if you wanna chat! ❤️

If you have a partner can you try and take shifts sleeping whilst the other one holds the sleeping baby? That’s what we did. Please don’t leave your 4 week old to cry it out, it’s breaking my heart just thinking about it. You are their first home and their comfort, they don’t know they are separate from you for the first 3 months. Google the fourth trimester.

Also some tips on how to get them to sleep separately, I highly recommend the Love 2 Dream swaddles and a white noise machine. Wait until they are in a deep sleep in your arms (15 mins or so) and carefully transfer them to the next to me crib, bum down first and keep your hand on their chest and shush for a couple of minutes. And go to sleep in the bed next to them so they can smell that you are near.
