Am I over reacting?

My little girl will be 12 weeks old on Wednesday. We've had a nightmare of a time getting her to sleep in her bassinet for naps. She would want to contact nap but then hates being held when she's awake and would just cry constantly.

The last week my mum and sisters have been staying with us for Xmas and between all of us we managed to work out a routine and she started consistently sleeping in her bassinet and was just overall a happier baby.

My in laws came to visit yesterday and my sister was getting my little one settled for a nap in the living room and my MIL was there. When my baby was asleep my sister put her in her bassinet and walked into the next room. 5 minutes later and she walked back in to check on her and my MIL had taken her out of her bassinet and she was awake. She told my partner that my baby had woken and was upset but my sister said she didn't hear her crying until after MIL had picked her up.

When I say my blood was boiling, I was shaking with the anger when I walked in to find her being passed around my partners family members. I then spent the best part of two hours with a screaming overtired over stimulated baby trying to get her settled for a nap.

We also have a rule that if she has gone down for a nap and wakes up, as long as she's not crying then leave her alone. She often wakes and looks around for a while then falls back asleep with no problems but obviously if she's upset then we try soothe her or pick her up.

My mother in law is now annoyed with me and barely spoke to me or my partner for the rest of the evening. Am I in the wrong for being annoyed?

You’re not wrong at all. As a matter of fact, I felt your anger. However, make sure you breathe and process what you’re feeling before you say something. And make sure those boundaries are clear to her. If she can’t respect them, then she needs to go elsewhere. That’s YOUR baby. YOU know what’s best for her. Also, you may want to speak to your partner about standing up for your family (you and the LO.) But make sure you breathe cuz you don’t wanna communicate with your feelings leading the way. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this shit when you already have so much going on. I wish you the best mama 🫶🏽

Nope, you are right! I would be the same

No you are not in the wrong at all x

You’re Not wrong at all!! I get that she wants to hold her grandchild but People don’t understand how difficult they’re making your life when they do things like that. It takes you so long to get them in to a good routine then one thing like that just messes it all up.

Your baby, your rules! I would also have been livid. It’s hard to get some babies down for naps (mine fights them). I’m angry for you,

How did you express your anger to them?

If you had clearly told them your rules then it’s not wrong to be annoyed, there are good and bad ways to express that…

Omg I’d be livid! Tell her she shouldn’t be upset with you, she messed up your baby’s nap. Gosh I’m mad for you!

So it's alright for your family to hold her but not your partners family? That is such double standards & not fair at all.

In that case, I can understand why you got upset.

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!

Rapid cool/ hot shot method

Sorry if this sound stupid but how are we doing the hot shot method?
Are we boiling the kettle and letting it cool a little before adding to hot flask? Then with the cool water do you boil the kettle and leave it to cool right down before putting into another flask?
My baby brain is fried trying to work out the easiest way!
