Hi everyone, my fiancé told his 18 year old daughter that we are having a baby together. She is crying, processing. We have been together for 5 years now. Any advice or personal experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

my fiancé & i have been together for 7.5 years. he has a now 22 year old, she was 15 when we got together. we have a 2, almost 3, year old & a 3 month old. it might be different bc her mom was never in her life, but she always wanted siblings. she cried, but it was more happiness. since she is older, she will be able to help raise & shape her siblings in a way that most people don’t do or realize they are doing so.

Honestly 18 years old seems a little old to be crying about this news.

Not personal experience, but I am a therapist. I would recommend gently asking questions when she seems to be a little less emotional. When her mind is calm, she can give a clear answer. She is 18 and most likely has things going on in her life that you and her dad don't know about. This might be an extreme, but she may have terminated a pregnancy in her adolescence or had a miscarriage. She may have been having relationship issues that she doesn't speak about. This may have just put her emotions over the edge. Either way, just let her feel what she feels, and if you have a good relationship with her, give her space to process it with you.
