Whenever my son sees a 3 he says B or 8, never 3. We've been working for months on this. When counting he always says 11 instead of 7. When I have him try again I see his brain and mouth struggle to say 7. I'm going to bring this up with his teacher and worker next time I see them.

A 3-year-old's brain is focused on overall development; mixing letters/numbers is part of that process. It's completely normal for a 3-year-old to confuse numbers and letters as they're still developing foundational skills; focus on playful, multi-sensory activities like tracing in sand, using Play-Doh, singing songs, and connecting letters/numbers to real objects to build recognition, rather than pushing formal academics, which helps avoid overwhelm and keeps learning fun. While some reversal (e.g., writing 'b' as 'd') is common until age 7 or 8, persistent, significant difficulties might warrant a developmental check-up later, but for now, keep it light and play-based. If letter/number focus is paired with speech delays or social challenges, a developmental screening by a professional can offer peace of mind.

My daughter does this, I’m not too worried about it at this point but we do “homeschool” (basics while we decide which route to take) via a workbook, so she gets her practice in. Sometimes she’ll say it correctly, sometimes she gets it mixed up. All part of it😊

Yes! Our son always skips number 7, or says a word like panda like tanda. Doesn’t matter how much we correct him, he always does the same mistake. I think it’s normal :)
