I noticed my boy had a high temperature of 38.3 this afternoon so I gave him some calpol I then checked it again 30m later and it went down to 37.7. He was drowsy like he was going to fall asleep so he had dinner (ate most of it) then he went to bed around 6. He’s been waking up grouchy and wanting to be on the boob. Still on the boob but his temperature has gone back up to 37.8.
Is there much I can do??
I’ve taken his pj bottoms off and he’s just in a vest and pj top.
Do you think he’s coming down with something?
He started nursery last week so wondering if he’s caught something..
He’s meant to be going to his nans (dad’s side) tomorrow for the night so is it best to keep him with me or see how he is in the night?

Welcome to the first winter of nursery mama, here in it starts… keep the calpol doses up and breastfeeding. Don’t bath or sponge down as that could flare it up. Loose cool clothing, thin blanket or covering over the top. Fevers get way worse at night. Keep him hydrated in every way poss. Lots of love, hugs, and reassurance. Xx

Definitely sounds like he has caught a bug. They all do for a while when starting nursery and mixing with new children = new bugs. Be prepared for him to be constantly on and off ill for the next few weeks to couple of months as his immune system updates.
You've done exactly the right thing with calpol and rechecking temp. Wanting boob is a good sign that he isn't feeling nauseas and its unlikely going to be a puking bug. For tonight, keep him with you and make sure he isn't getting too hot (39c+) but also that he doesnt get too cold with the reduced layers/clothing. See how he is tomorrow morning with demeanour, temperature and any other symptoms and make a judgement call from there. You can always call Nan and let her make the choice if she wants LO over or not if you are on the fence.

You have done really well for them to have never been ill before now. My mum always takes the mick out of our calpol syringe collection from often my boy has had fevers/illness over the past 2yrs.

We’re on like 30 th sickness since my daughter started childcare when she was 9 months old. Luckily for you toddler rooms are much better in terms of sickness than baby room. 38 degrees is probably terrifying if your son hasn’t been ill yet but it really is not very high! It’s normal response of immune system. Have a read about fever on nhs website - very useful. Great that you’re still breastfeeding - it massively helps x
