I’ve been diagnosed with GD at 17 weeks with my first pregnancy, and am feeling really lost. If anyone has any tips, good foods, and bad foods, please let me know! 💙

Hi. i had also GD. I would only say eat please. My baby was only 2.910 at 39+0. Of course you should not eat sweets or white bread but you should try to find out which food works for you which not. My blood Suger was extremy high everytime i had oatmeal for example...Good luck and don't sorry so much 🌸

During my pregnancy, I consumed plenty of avocado, eggs, walnuts, tofu, meat, quinoa, whole grain products, and leafy greens. Testing often is key, especially when you're figuring out your body's reactions. It gets easier once you settle into a routine.

Gd uk website and Facebook group are great

Follow gestational diabetes uk Facebook group! This was the most amazing help for me
Not good and bad just pairing!!
Think fats and protein! It’s a diet like health or calorie based
It’s like paring foods to ensure your blood sugar is more stable
For example
Chips? - add a ton of cheese and mayo to help the body cope with the carbs!
Burgers, want a bun? Add more cheese and more meat to counteract the carb!
No cereals or carb / sugar based singular items
Try to pair - eg - cream in deserts to help counteract the carb
Protein based meals with fats and low carb - a lot like keto style

It’s different for everyone. Some things can cause high blood glucose in some but not others. Lots of trial and error because you still need carbs!
Also 17 weeks is pretty early to be diagnosed. After this pregnancy, you should get some more blood work done to see if you might be pre diabetic.

I always struggled with breakfast ideas, my go to was full fat cream with a handful of mixed nuts and a handful of berries. Meat sauce (particularly steak) I’d heat some double cream, blue cheese, butter and black pepper mixed together on the hob. Lots of green veg and salad, meat and fish xx
