My daughter yesterday went to her 2 year old check and they told me her speech is slightly delayed. They want to refere her to a speech specialist just to make sure. They put me on the waiting list. She does talk but her words are not clear and she doesn't say more then 2 sentences. It's only one words. For example if she want a biscuite. She will say biss. Instead of I want a biscuite. I thought this was normal as she's still a baby. As anyone else's gone through this.

I had a friend and her babygirl was the same after she went to speech therapy she is talking way better and clearer now. I will say every baby develops differently. I wouldn’t stress too much as long as you’re making time to sit down with her on your own to help her.

I agree, One word sentence at her age isn't completely normal, as I work in a nursery I see many 2 year olds. In the mean time while you wait it might help to do flash cards with her and readings lots of stories, narrating your every day actions. That's what we tend to do at nursery when kids have speech delay. Just lots and lots of modelling speech. Hope you get your appointment soon.

My little girl was like that she is now 4 and can speak really well just give it time

One for walking, two for talking. That's what I've heard. My boy is the same as your little girl though & the HV is coming out to assess him soon for speech delay. I'm not worried though as his words are definitely coming. I would be more worried if they weren't saying anything at this point.

My little girl didn't really speak till 3 but now can say nearly anything does have trouble with b p t letters but she getting there an yours will too xx

My almost 3.5 year old had a mild delay as well at 2 but they didn’t want to see her till 3. She’s getting better every day.

My 2.5 yo is in speech therapy and it has made such a difference! He wasn’t speaking much at all and now he’s right on par with his peers!

Sounds like my son at 2 and half. Speech therapy has helped him a lot.

Ask you health visitor about chatterpillars, my eldest was recommended at 2 when we lived in London it’s a stay and play group run by a speach therapist for 3-6 weeks and it’s very relaxed play session that teaches parents techniques to get little ones speaking more words with correct pronunciation gently and you meet one to one with a specialist at the end to see if further intervention is need. My daughter started babbling then single words then stalled out at 18 months and kept just grunting and gesturing with the one word when it was picked up by the health visitor. It’s gotten a lot better now she’s at school but with a move as well she had trouble communicating with her teacher and has a learning delay because of it. But why really made it worse was she was on the top of the lists for everything in London then we moved and she had to wait a year in Scotland to see a speech therapist when speech wasn’t even the problem anymore
