Advice for possible mastitis

The beginning of this week I woke up to my right breast sore thinking I just slept on it wrong but from Thursday-Friday I developed a massive headache, fever, chills so when to the minor and they told me they would treat me as if I had mastitis because of the pain however my breast wasn’t red? Anyways im on a antibiotic but my breast is still painful, they told me to pump after feeding I have been trying to use a haaka to prevent using my pump because im worried about oversupply and I only get a few drops here and there. Should I keep feeding my baby on the right or still alternate feeding breasts this is kind of me ranting but im not too sure so any advice helps thank you mamas🫶🏼
Edit: my baby is still eating fine not fussing at the breast as if nothing is coming out. When he pulls off I am still noticeably leaking, more like dripping not spraying.

I had mastitis with my first baby, it’s horrible! I fed baby on both sides and then used an electric pump as well on the swollen boob to drain the milk out as quickly as possible. I felt so much better after a day or so, I would say just get the milk out.

I favored the painful side first, even if there isn’t much milk in there I started her on the clogged side, I even laid her down gradually so my boob is hanging over her while she’s sucking, then I would switch to a side that she would actually eat well from, did the trick:) also in the shower you can use a hand pump while bent over so gravity helps:) ibuprofen!!! The antibiotics will only help if there’s infection, they won’t help to get the clog out that you have to pump out yourself

I think I’ve had it once when my baby was just born (a few months ago) I tried pumping first no milk was coming out. Then I pushed through the pain and put the baby on my breast and I felt relieved. Eventually it went away. But make sure the baby is on both breasts and after the baby has been on the breast try and pump to get rid of the rest of the milk x

I get minor mastitis every time when my milk comes in. I don't get crazy red, but have a sore breast, slight redness and the fever/ chills.

I wouldn't recommend pumping after you feed.... that will increase your supply... leave it alone unless you are very engorged/latch issue.

Feed baby as usual from both sides take ibuprofen and apply cold compress to reduce inflammation.

Mastitis=inflammation. Could be from a clog, too much milk at once, bacteria etc. So the tissues get inflammed.

Old advice was to "work that clog out" by massaging, pumping, heat, etc. That is mostly outdated.

Very very gentle movement in a warm shower feel nice sometimes, but you're wanting to reduce inflammation...so ice and ibuprofen are your friends.

Pumping can make the problem worse...your breast tissues get worked even more than they are.

I'd rely on baby to drain the breast and regulate supply. If baby is struggling to do so, then definitely look into adding some pumping.

Just proceed with the pumping route with caution!

Nighttime nappies

Hi all, does anyone have recommendations for a good nappy for nights? 3 month old is sleeping in good stretches but nappies can’t keep up. Tried Aldi and pampers and now on Sainsbury’s and they are great in day but not at night?! Thanks so much

Very unsettled baby girl tonight 😢

My 4 week old seems to just not want to settle/sleep unless she is on me or my husband or being nursed by me. Every time I try to transfer tonight she just starts crying and getting inconsolable. Have made sure she’s fed, burped, helped with gas, changed etc but nothing seems to be working tonight when usually she is ok. I am absolutely exhausted and my husband is working tomorrow so having to manage solo is pretty tough. Anyone else or any suggestions?

Breastfeeding

Does it actually get easier?

Two weeks postpartum and I’m exhausted. Baby is awake every 1-2 hours feeding and is EBF. I can’t sleep during day as my toddler doesn’t nap and so I feel like I’m running on fumes.
Do you get longer stretches when baby is breastfed? I’ve seen some women say they haven’t slept in years for more than two hours due to breastfeeding!

I need your help/advice

My 6 day old hasn’t done a poo for almost 72 hours now. He’s been passing wind and peeing normally. The last time I spoke to the midwife, it had been 48 hours since his last poo, and she said she wasn’t too worried and advised me to continue feeding him.

I’m calling again tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar. We switched from formula to 100% breastfeeding about 3 days ago, and I have no idea whether he’s getting enough milk. I can see and hear him swallowing, but it’s still so confusing trying to know how much he’s actually getting.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?
