I’m a young mom (24 with a 4 year old daughter) and my husband (the father) is the same age as myself. We were just married in August of last year, but we have been together for 6 years now. This past week, I’ve been facing some serious anxiety around our relationship.
Following my graduation for my undergraduate degree, I have been struggling to find a job in my field, largely due to the sudden burst of AI in 2025. I had a very horrible experience last year with a job that resulted in a severance package and an NDA. I’ve had anxiety about trying to start in my field again, so I have been focusing on freelancing and other arts skills while returning to my previous part time job. He’s encouraged me to continue to try to pursue my arts career path options, but I’m starting to worry that I can no longer pursue this and may need to change directions for my own stability.
We’ve had classic weaponized incompetence issues for years. He is WFH where his job is either really busy or he has absolutely nothing to do. Oftentimes, he plays games on his personal PC that is set up next to his work laptop/monitor. He’s finally started doing more simple housework during his free time, but we end up having arguments over his continuing to mess up laundry (shrinking my clothes). I oftentimes have to ask him to do things, and there is so much general clutter that gets overwhelming. It’s too much to explain here, but that’s the general idea.
Him and his friends/family convinced me to finally drop my (now ex) best friend that was the maid of honor at our wedding. Although I still agree that it was the right choice as we were more like acquaintances for years, I’m now hyper analyzing whether this could be an isolation tactic.
The kicker starts earlier this week. He was informed that his best friend’s sister, after we had left a gathering, called me some nasty names and asked “when will they get a divorce.” Apparently many of them have been discussing my attitude problem lately, which I can understand. I’ve felt like a failure in my career and pretty dependent on everyone around me, which has been bleeding out into other areas of my life. However, this sister called a couple days later to “apologize” for her drunken words, and my husband quickly forgave her. At the end of the phone call, she asked him to be a professional reference for a potential client. He agreed, and after the phone call was completely baffled that I thought this was inappropriate. His response was that he will forgive those he considers family no matter what they do. (Which, as his wife, rubs me the wrong way. Shouldn’t he prioritize me a bit, and isn’t this pretty quick for him to forgive someone that said things like that?)
The biggest piece is that earlier today, he HIT our daughter in the face with a light tap, twice, in a slapping motion???? I didn’t want to tell anyone that I know because it could be a fluke, and she wasn’t hurt, just shocked. This physical nature is so uncharacteristic of him, but now I’m analyzing all of our interactions over the years. I’ve been feeling like I’m going crazy, and I’ve suspected gaslighting. I’ve just never trusted my gut enough to act on it, because I don’t want to make a mistake that will derail my life any more than those that I’ve already made.
Is this a big enough deal to start taking any action, or should I wait? All I can think about is how I could not afford to move out even if I wanted to.

Yes, this is absolutely big enough deal to start taking action. What was his reasoning for even doing that to your child?
And also as a wife, you should absolutely be prioritized, and he shouldn’t be so quick to forgive people who harmed you.

I will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I don't believe that alone is a red flag. The reasoning behind why you should have cut off a friend was odd, and it's even more odd that his family had any say in it. I can't say this is an isolation tactic from that alone. He isn't stopping you from pursuing anything, you just have anxiety that isn't allowing you to.
Seems like you have a few things you're generally unhappy about with him, but not necessarily red flags in terms of danger or abuse.
I would talk to him about the tap to the face. The intent was to correct or stop a behavior, but you aren't comfortable with it and that should be discussed.

Violence (especially physical) against a child is the only red flag I’d personally need to consider consequences like leaving or at least counselling for him (or potentially the couple/ family unit, depending on the actual situation).
I'm 3 months postpartum and my partner expects me to spend more time with his family when he's not there because he's working.
There have been comments made from his mum to him and then passed on to me that they expected me to make more of an effort with them. Honestly, it's overwhelming and added pressure and awkwardness. I get on with them fine but the relationship feels forced and they are coming to see the baby and not for me, am I wrong for not wanting this? My partner and i had a argument because he doesnt understand how its fine for my family to visit, i tried to explain the dynamics are different and as much as my family want to see the baby they come to visit to check in and give support to me! Has anyone else dealt with these expectations, and how did you handle it?
I now feel awkward, pressured and alot of guilt on my shoulders because they're 'not seeing the baby enough to bond'. Now cant get it out of my mind and want to see if I am in the wrong for not wanting them over much and prefer to keep it to when my partner is around.

On Instagram your seeing all these post about husbands doing all the cooking, cleaning, food shop and looking after the other kids and allowing you to sleep, rest and focus on caring for the new baby..
Is this even possible. My husband helps but im still doing everything like usual. Im cooking all our meals, mowed the garden yesterday, hoover daily wash and hang the clothes outside. He is making our toddlers packed lunch for nursery and does the food shop but other than that everything is our usual. I havent had this waited on hand and food situation I see on socials 🤣😅😬

I’m really struggling what to do I need advice or someone to talk to it’s killing me.
Couple months ago my baby dad went out he said he wouldn’t be back late and I told him not to do drugs as I don’t like it and we have a family anyway he didn’t come home till the next day as he was going drugs till silly o’clock in the morning. I had a discussion with him about it saying it upsets me etc saying sorry I won’t do it aged then another couple he did the exact same thing again
On Friday night he went out for a couple hours then came home at 12 in the morning on drugs yet again and somehow it’s all my fault it’s me doing wrong he doesn’t see the wrong in his actions and that he’s hurting me doing it.
Am I over reacting or have I a right ?
He doesn’t help me with our baby at all
Yesterday he spent all day in bed didn’t come see our daughter never mind me .
I put my all into been a mum don’t get help and just get walked all over I don’t know how much I can take i rlly love him and I don’t want a broken family but he’s hurting me doing this all the time l.

I am confused as to how there are so many parents letting there little ones play games rated for kids twice their age. Does it not concern you how this will affect your kiddo long term? What is it doing to their development?

I work full time and live in a rented house. I dont really have any family around. so i am so clueless how to take off the diaper and not risk the carpets etc? She is sitting on the potty in morning and before bed time but still in diapers. I thought I will use this weekend but I am just so exhausted and just wanted to spend tine with her so we ended up doing outdoor axtivities. I am not sure how outdoor will work as well in the duration. i know she is ready because she dfinitely tells after she has done the poo in the diaper
