I'm 3 months postpartum and my partner expects me to spend more time with his family when he's not there because he's working.
There have been comments made from his mum to him and then passed on to me that they expected me to make more of an effort with them. Honestly, it's overwhelming and added pressure and awkwardness. I get on with them fine but the relationship feels forced and they are coming to see the baby and not for me, am I wrong for not wanting this? My partner and i had a argument because he doesnt understand how its fine for my family to visit, i tried to explain the dynamics are different and as much as my family want to see the baby they come to visit to check in and give support to me! Has anyone else dealt with these expectations, and how did you handle it?
I now feel awkward, pressured and alot of guilt on my shoulders because they're 'not seeing the baby enough to bond'. Now cant get it out of my mind and want to see if I am in the wrong for not wanting them over much and prefer to keep it to when my partner is around.

Yes I dealt with this for a whileeee I still am actually dealing with it. The pressure is what makes everything so much harder like why would you want to be around someone who’s pressuring you. Luckily my partner doesn’t give me much lip about it, but at the end of the day your the mom as messed up at that may be to dad you just have more say so. If you don’t feel like doing something that’s causing you to feel a way negatively then you simply don’t have to do it. People will just have to get over themselves because right now it’s not about them especially with you being only 3 months pp.

I might not be the best person to answer because I don’t have any of my own family here, but I completely feel your pain. My in-laws try to visit every single weekend. My mother-in-law even shows up without calling, despite knowing our baby has been a terrible, light sleeper for the first 10 months.
It is exhausting. I’ve always been a positive person and had a great relationship with them, but lately, I sense real resentment from my mother-in-law. When my husband noticed my exhaustion and asked them to come every other weekend instead, they took it personally. They think I just don't want them around, completely failing to understand that we need time for basic chores and rest.
Men just don’t get it! It’s entirely different with your own family. With your own parents, you've been through a lifetime of ups and downs—you never have to worry about them judging you or invading your privacy.

It shouldn't feel this way...feeling forced. It's like you just popped out baby and then they pushed you aside and don't care about you or your needs and just only want to see the baby whenever they demand.
There's no hello how are you? It's just, I want to see the baby!

Has a first time mom I get you. But what can get you through this is being honest. If you are tired or overwhelmed tell them that don’t sugarcoat anything being a mother is hard and takes hard work, we stay up nights. You are taking care of a new born, you need time to be with you and your baby sometimes. Tell them that. Dont overthink about things too, I know it can be hard but try not to think what they think. It’s your life and the baby

I experienced the same thing, my partners family acted SO entitled to my birth as well as my baby afterwards. I explained to my partner that yes my mum loves seeing the baby but she was there for me more than anything, she’d come over with cooked food and just start cleaning take my baby when she needed a nappy change helped sterilise the bottles and pumps because I had a c section and was recovering. His family came over to hold her and it was like I wasn’t even there. It took for my partner to see it with his eyes to understand the difference
My husband has been saying is too tired to do anything and on the weekend he gets annoyed when I ask him to me and my daughter out. He always complains and when he comes home he wants time alone. It bugs me cause he hardly spend any time with our daughter.. anyways today I said we should walk to the store near by to get groceries but told him he should go alone with our daughter cause I already walked to the store earlier and been with our daughter all day. And he got so mad saying he wants me to walk with him and he wouldn’t have agreed to walking if he knew I wasn’t going to go. Anyways he slammed the door and left. I got a text saying how he’s upset and he’s taking note of this and he is going to take his time to come back home. That was at 4:45pm.. it’s now 6pm. He turned off his location. He won’t answer my texts and calls go straight to voicemail… I’m panicking… it’s getting cold and dark out.. idk where he went. His car is still here… I’m beyond pissed and if he doesn’t come home soon I’m calling the
Police. My trust is broken right now..

I’m 17 just had my first baby. I have no fanily at all except my partners family. He’s 18 and my baby is 5 weeks old. He does nothing he doesn’t get up at night he doesn’t tidy he doesn’t clean he does nothing I’m on my own and it was him that was convincing me to keep the baby. I wouldent change this for the world now but every single week since my sons been born my partner has been out at the pub with his pals. I don’t get to go out with mine I made plans last week to go for coffee WOTH some and I was guilt tripped by him. I have a sever womb infection and bladder infection curently so I’m at his mum and dads house Bwcause I can’t cope in my own house on my own right now and I am just so upset and angry that I’ve been Left to deal on my own whilst he gets to live his best life. It’s so unfair and I know this is my own fault and I done it to myself but somebody tell me I’m not crazy and I’m not the only one. TAHTS dealing with this and these feelings

What’s something (or multiple things) your mother in law has said to you that have made you cringe or left you shook?
I’ll go first, mine always says off handed remarks to me because I don’t give my son juice and I only allow sugary sweets with supervision, anyways she told me that when her boys where little, she took them off of formula and started giving them Carnation milk at 6 MONTHS old and she fed her 10 day old rice water with oatmeal because he wouldn’t sleep all night. lol
We get along and she respects my boundaries but I definitely think it’s so funny how statements like “look at them (my husband) he’s fine,” get used.

OMG i am starting to really get annoyed with my husband. We have a 15 yr old and 12 year old (both adhd and asd) and a 13week old tomorrow. I was in a&e monday evening for 11 hrs got told to rest and not lift anything heavy. Hubby helped for a day and then everything went back to normal. Today he went to football match with the oldest child and got back at 7:30. the baby is struggling with reflux but can’t go on medication as he is also having trouble pooing and on medication for that too. hubby had tea and went on i pad. baby had a bottle, threw up all over pjs so changed him while hubby was still sitting down on ipad. then baby decided to have a very watery poo which went everywhere, hubby was still on ipad didnt offer to help. i sorted him out took nappy outside and when i came back in baby had been sick again and hubby still sitting down on ipad did nothing. i counted to 10 and picked baby up and then he responded to me how do u need help!!!! honestly getting annoyed now. sorry for the rant but this made me feel better
