It’s okay if you needing to get stuff done or just a bit of a break. But yeah too much of it is not okay.

We love a bit of miss apple if I just need to prep a quick lunch or get a wash load on. The Alexa is good enough sometimes because she just likes the Songs.
Then in the night garden we watch every night…x

The research I've read suggests that there are two main problems:
1. Time spent watching screens = time not spent doing the sort of play activities that children need for their learning and development (so a little bit is fine, as long as most of the time they are doing pre-screen era baby stuff)
2. Language heard on screen doesn't contribute to language learning UNLESS there is an adult present interacting with the baby and the screen content in the kind of way that you would be reading a book (so tv should ideally be a shared conversational activity, not something a child does on their own. This becomes especially important as they get older and need help understanding the concepts presented to stop them developing irrational fears etc)

So I'm a big believer thst screen time is only damaging if you leave it to parent your kids the majority of the day, don't monitor what they watch and don't interact.
I have always had the tv on in my house whether its the radio, my tv or the kids stuff (i have a 3yo and almost 11mo).
I leave the kids to watch it alone when I need to get stuff done. Otherwise if its on in the background they are normally playing or I'm playing with them and they are glancing at it occasionally or we are singing/dancing/talking in regards to what is on the tv.
My eldest is always happy to turn it off to go play or go outside and we rarely have tantrums specifically about the tv. I make sure she is watching age appropriate things, educational and not AI. I also don't allow her to have the phone out the house except in certain instances - never at restaurants - Ie want to keep her awake in the car.
In my opinion its about all in moderation. My 3yo is at nursery 3 days a week and the in laws for 1 day. My son is at nursery

For half a day and the inlaws for 2 days. We also go to 2 playgroups, swimming, athletics and at the weekend do something as a family so in comparison are out and very active. X

I don't like screen time and we don't have the tv on at all when our boy is around- he only have screen time on Saturdays and Sundays to videocall my family in Spain. But in all fairness, we don't even feel like we need to resort to it, as our LO goes to nursery full time Monday to Friday so when he gets home at 5pm, we have 2 hours of playtime with him, then on Saturdays we go out and Sundays he has swimming so he is always busy doing something. I do understand if parents need to use it sometimes to help while getting things done, etc and as long as it's not more than 45 mins a day (I read that's the maximum recommended time for 2 years old and below) it should be ok

I dont like it but we use it sometimes (e.g for motivation to get things done or so I can brush toddlers hair!). The issue I see with teenage step son is that children are getting used to having content at their finger tips and choosing the content and they then don't have the attention span for traditional childhood activities.

We don't watch any tv when baby is around us/awake. We video call family/friends regularly but that's the only screen time she gets

My twins watch winnie the pooh and mickey mouse. Winnie the pooh in am while I shower etc. Mickey mouse of an evening while I cook dinner. They dont pay much attention but do get excited to the theme tune. Tv is on all day but usually itv.

I’m not against screen time at all but I never feel the need to turn the tv on for my little girl. She watched ms apple 2x once in the car and once at home and a few music video clips for babies but that’s about it. She’s not really interested in it either so I guess it depends on your baby too. Im with her 24/7 and I just let her follow me everywhere for example if I need to load the dishwasher or clean the kitchen she would come and play around me whilst I finish and same with cleaning upstairs or sorting the washing I just give her stuff to do/ play with and I’m not saying she’s always happy and not whinging but most of the time she’s absolutely fine. Saying this I’m sure there would be times I need to give her shows to watch just to be quite but we cross that bridge when we get there 😂

When I need to get stuff done or need a min I put it on for my twins. Miss Rachel. She has been a life saver when things get tough 😂 trying to console two babies at once miss Rachel comes in handy 😂

I have her 24/7 and we have a dog which makes things a bit harder as I can't leave them unsupervised.
She normally follows me around if I need to do chores like emptying the dishwasher/washing machine and she loves being part of that. I normally cook lunch when she takes her morning nap and for dinner she is normally in the highchair in the kitchen with me. We play nursery rhymes whilst cooking to make it more enjoyable for her.
I do house chores like hoovering, steaming the floor, cleaning the toilet etc when she takes her morning nap

We have the tv on to watch together and sometimes on a rainy day but she plays and can divert her attention. No actually individual screens except for face time

Exact same as Veronica except we have 2 cats and my LO only contact naps so I don't even have that time to catch up on chores lol (not that is a competition, just saying!). I have her 24/7 and the only screen time she gets is video calls with family. (Family is also abroad)
LO is VERY mobile and wants to be with me all the time but hey. We don't do noisy toys so when I really need to do something (e.g. I really needed to scrub the kitchen floor yesterday without her trying to dive into the mop bucket) I let her play with some noisy stuff or I dig out a toy she's not seen in weeks and I get 15-30ish minutes.
Time spent together at home is we play together, read books, sing, do silly dances, fold laundry, cook. If she is clingy but fine I will sit on her mat and crochet while we listen to an audiobook or the radio and she plays independently. Sometimes she is fine by herself and I sneak to the kitchen (she is in sight) and do a little clean up, cook, tidy up the mess that we always leave after meals (sigh) etc

Not rude, and fair question. On good days my LG can play independently for 30-40ish minutes. Not going to lie but I had to come to terms with the fact that she would have the priority over the house and anything else really. I am back at work in a few months and I am spending as much quality time with her as I can, while I can. Hubby tidies up after tea. During the day, when he's at work, I use any spare moment to do some cleaning and cooking; I am certainly not a perfect cleaner but I am pretty fast when focused. Sometimes it feels like all i do is clean up and cook but hey, BLW doesn't help and it will get better. Deeper clean is usually done at the weekend when hubby is home too or I split tasks and do 1 1or 2 tasks each day instead of a big clean. E.g. deep clean bathtub and bathroom after I bathed. Both hubby and I are neurodiverse, which makes things even more complicated so we try to be flexible and a bit forgiving.
Currently I barely have time for myself; when I need it though, dad fully takes over.
Does anyone ever struggle with their husband/partner not being present in the moment? My husband is great, he cooks, he cleans, he changes their diapers, he takes care of us. But sometimes, when the kids are doing something for the first time, he's not present. Like today, for example. My son is almost 3 and my daughter is 2 months old. My husband just got back from the gym and my daughter was doing tummy time, and her big bro was copying her and they were having a cute moment together. So I told him to go look at how cute they were! He was on his phone, on instagram or tiktok or whatever. He looks over for a second, smiles and goes back to his phone. I told him to look! And he looks again for a second and that was it. I got so mad cuz I was like why can't you just be in the moment and look at them enjoying a sweet moment together. He said he saw and I was like yeah, for a freaking second. Idk. It got me hella mad. Sorry for rambling. Anyone else feel this?

Have taken Eva to the pharmacist, A&E and the GP. They all said the external one is impetigo which I agree with. For her tongue (it looked a bit different yesterday and the day before when they saw it) one said dehydration and one said thrush. Chatgpt now says Gingivostomatitis? She can’t eat anything from the pain and antibiotics and thrush medication haven’t helped. Taking her again to the GP in a few hours. 🙁

My baby is currently 6 months old, and I’m already thinking about going back to work when he’s around 12 months.
Honestly, I don’t really want to leave him at nursery this young, but I also want to continue building my career.
For mums who started nursery around 1 year old — how did you find it? Did you feel like it affected your bond with your baby, or did you both adjust okay?

Hello, recently my daughter who is almost three years old got diagnosed with autism a couple weeks ago. We are still waiting on the summary report from the doctors office to be sent over so I am not sure on the level that she is. I can’t reach out for help either for a few more weeks. She’s been in early intervention for two years and progresses very well. I been grieving the diagnosis and a lot of people can’t understand unless you are the parent going through it yourself. The doctors office wants to see her in 8 months to see how she progressing in pre k. I see a lot of people saying it’s Nero and you can’t grow out of it but my doctor said she misdiagnoses all the time and they have to put it in writing so it doesn’t come back on them. She thinks since my daughter is at a young age that is plenty of time for growth & progress and I just wanna get all of the help I need but it’s hard because I don’t know what I’m doing and this is all knew to me. (She was flagged for social skills and speech delay-also sounding out her words correctly) Any suggestions and support would be appreciated 🤍 this is Kinsley Elaine she’ll be 3 December 23rd and she LOVES baby shark finger puppets

Me and my partner live with his mom and his little sister who both always get ill around the end of october and im due on halloween with my first. His little sister does not cover her mouth when coughing or sneezing and his mom is demanding first cuddles with our baby boy when he comes home after being born however she gets ill faster then anyone else in the house and stays ill the longest and his little sister has a habit of walking around the house with ger phone on full volume screaming and shouting when playing games with her friends whilst only being 8. I dont want her waking up the baby when he is down for a nap and she has the worst attitude and my partners mom doesnt do anything about her screaming or when she has attitude so me or my partner ask her to quiet down and have explained that when the baby is here she can not be going round the house screaming and shouting yet she is still screaming at full volume and refuses to do as she is told by me my partner or their mom. What advice does people have for me about protecting my baby from illness and what can i do about my partners sister screaming and potentially waking the baby once he is born. Also my partners mom has already said that people will be coming over and they will all want to see the baby but me and my partner dont want him passed around like a parcel. Any advice for that will be great.

For context we have a 7 month old and have been together for almost three years I only ask because I ask myself every single day what I should do whether that means breaking up or staying together like this man just every day pisses me off, pisses me off like he makes life a living hell sometimes and I try to see through the bad and look for the good, but I don’t know if I should be doing that you know?
Let me know how you handle seeing the good over the bad cause i know there is more good than bad but GOD DAMN he is annoying.
