I’d really appreciate everyone’s honest opinions. I know everyone does things differently, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar.
My little one has always used a dummy, and my original plan was to wean her off it around 4–5 months, which is where we are now. We’re currently having frequent night wakings where she needs me to put the dummy back in, and I’m also conscious that I don’t want her to get to the stage of being able to put it back in herself.
However, I’ve started noticing signs of thumb sucking. At the moment it doesn’t seem like she’s using it to self-soothe, but I’m not completely sure.
I know there are pros and cons to both, so I’m just looking for some honest perspectives. Ideally, I’d like to stop the dummy now, but I’m aware that thumb sucking can be much harder to break later on.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations on how to stop the dummy? At the moment, I’ve limited it to sleep times only.

My daughter has just turned 5 months, she’s only ever had the dummy for sleep but now she spits it out and sucks her thumb 😵💫 I also don’t know what to do 😂 xx

I stopped using the dummy when my boy was 6 weeks 😅 he’d spit it out and never really relied on it as he was using his hands majority of the time, the first couple of days he would cry and cry when he needed to settle/feed but I just tried to help guide his hand/thumb and within two days he was off it. I know 4/5 months is a longer period, but I would say if you want to wean her off it I’d recommend to do it earlier than later on, some people struggle for years to wean them off them , she will find her fingers/hand it will just take time and patience 🥰

My daughter is a thumb sucker and she’s almost 5. Never had a dummy just discovered her thumb at about 3 months. She only does it in the house when she’s tired, never did it at nursery or school so I don’t worry too much. I’m kind of hoping that she’ll grow out of it at some point
