What's everyone's opinion I stopped sun beds when I found out I was pregnant I'm now 17 weeks but I have psoriasis and sun beds helped so much with my condition. I keep getting mixed opinions about using a sun bed I'm think off going back 1 / 2 times a week for 6 minuets to help with this but people keep putting me off. Has anyone had the same experiences or any advice đ«¶đŒ

No sunbed shops allow pregnant women onto the beds itâs in their policies, due to overheating, dizziness and reduction of folic acid, and dehydration you also will find you wonât tan as well because your skin is much more sensitive whilst pregnant so will most likely burn. Summer is just round the corner from someone who mum owns a sunbed shop, just wait for the natural sun itâs the safest option for you and baby x

I would personally ask your midwife, I know some sunbed shops do not allow pregnant women on the beds but some do but I would definitely ask your midwife and see what they recommend and see thereâs another option to reduce your psoriasis x

I got told by a woman who owns a sun bed shop that itâs not actually necessarily bad for you to go on the sun bed when youâre pregnant if youâre just careful of it, so if you usually go on for 15 mins then go on for less and make sure youâre actually taking a proper break in between your sessions. Because itâs like going on holiday isnât it.
However I know my heart rate would go high on a sun bed and Iâm waiting for summer to just absolutely bake myself outside in the garden as Iâm also missing the sun bed!!
I also think if they notice your bump theyâll decline you as theyâll have insurances etc that say no pregnant women and tbh as much as I love it I wouldnât bother risking it. Itâs summer soon and I think next month weâll see the nicer weather which will hopefully help your psoriasis

When pregnant our skinâs ability to process UV light is not good, hence why we burn very fast. My obstetrician told me not to even sunbathe pregnant when I told her I was going on holiday.
My mum did in 1990 whilst pregnant with me and has permanent melasma on her face (pregnancy mask). I honestly wouldnât bother until after pregnancy. 35 years later she still has visible discolouration on her face, neck and chest from a single week in the sun.
