Hi all. I have a delightful 11 week old who is just so easy going and lovely ♥️ he is meeting all his milestones in terms of smiling and interacting. He has stated to bat toys and is now becoming very interested in us all which is so lovely.
My concern is that I've noticed that he is still very slouched when picked up. He struggles to hold his head up ( which he does a little when sitting him up and talking to him) but not like my other children did at this stage. He also HATES tummy time. When I say hate I mean he full on face plants and becomes extremely distressed the moment he realises he is on his tummy ! I have tried putting toys around him, only trying when he is in a happy mood. He will quite happily lie on my chest elevated but doesn't make much attempt to lift his head (he just snuggles)
I'm getting worried. I attempt some form of tummy time during each wake window but it makes him so unhappy and upset 😢 which breaks my heart.
Has anyone experienced this ? Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful
Thank you x

This sounds exactly like my 11 week old and the health visitor today says he's normal, just try having him on your chest for tummy time instead

Oh really ? Thats so reassuring thank you Jane

Our 12 week old is exactly the same x

My 13 week old was like this until *very* recently (last week). His head control was so poor at the 8 week check that the GP booked in a follow-up appointment to check on it. One thing I changed was when picking him up I turned him onto his side and then lifted him. Babies naturally hold their heads steady when you do this. Just alternate the side you turn him onto so it's roughly 50-50. My son's neck control has really improved now and the Dr is happy to not see him again. This is probably partly lifting him differently, partly persevering with tummy time and partly just him getting bigger and stronger himself! Keep going - you're doing great x

There’s lots of ways to do tummy time don’t feel guilty about it. If you put your baby over your shoulder to burp that is tummy time. If you carry your baby that is tummy time. If your baby lays on your tummy that is tummy time. Being carried in a football hold. Holding like an aeroplane. Having them rest on your calves and put them in the air while you lay down. Baby wearing. It all counts. Any opportunity for your baby to use their own neck and shoulders. babies actually get a lot more tummy time a day than we realise :)
